Cavan moved themselves two points clear at the top of the Allianz Football League Division 3 table thanks to an emphatic 1-19 to 0-11 win over neighbours Longford at Kingspan Breffni.

Oisin Brady netted the game’s only goal after 25 minutes as Mickey Graham’s side took in a warranted 1-9 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

Robbie Smyth registered the first-point of the second-half via a mark, but five minutes later they’d be down to 14 men with the dismissal of Joe Hagan.

Paddy Lynch came off the bench to fire over an immediate points for the Breffni men and fellow sub Conor Madden would grab a brace on the way to an 11-point win.

In Mullingar, Westmeath picked up their second win of the campaign after handing Offaly a 2-12 to 0-12 defeat.

John Heslin and Kieran Martin supplied the goals for the hosts who had trailed at the halfway stage (0-7 to 1-2).

Frees from Dylan Hyland would extend the Offaly lead to four after the turnaround, but Martin’s goal with 10 minutes to go turned the tide and Heslin, Ronan O’Toole and Stephen Smith shot late points to ensure the victory for Dessie Dolan’s men.

The day’s earlier game in the third tier saw plenty of drama at the finish as Fermanagh edged out Down by 2-14 to 3-10 in Ederney.

The home side had led for long portions before Conor Francis netted and looked to have the Mourne men on the verge of a second late win in-a-row having denied Antrim last time out.

However, the second minute of injury-time saw Garvan Jones' shot drop short and Sean Quigley made the most of it to rattle the Down net and instead send Fermanagh towards their second win of the campaign.
