Offaly proved too strong for Derry as they recorded a 0-33 to 1-15 in the teams’ second round Allianz Hurling League Division 2A meeting in Tullamore this afternoon.

Eoghan Cahill registered 0-12 after coming off the bench just before half-time, while inside forwards David Nally (0-6) and Charlie Mitchell (0-4) also proved a thorn in the Oak Leafers’ side throughout.

Reese McSorley’s goal on the stroke of half-time left it at 0-13 to 1-8 when the sides went in at the interval and, after the turnaround, the Cahill-inspired hosts blew away their opponents with twenty points to cruise to victory.

In Tralee, Kerry were pushed all the way by a plucky Carlow outfit before securing their second win of the campaign on a 0-18 to 1-13 scoreline.

Despite losing marksman Martin Kavanagh to a second caution just two minutes into the second-half, the Leinster men were able to keep in contention with the fancied hosts.

Kerry trailed by two at half-time but points from Cillian Trant and Podge Boyle (2 frees) had them ahead early in the restart and they’d increase their lead to six late on prior to James Doyle finding their net with a free in injury-time.

Carlow needed another goal in the dying stages to try and snatch an unlikely result but it never came their way and Stephen Molumphy’s charges held out for the points.

The division’s later game also saw Kildare holding out against Down to maintain their 100 per cent start.

It finished 1-17 to 0-19 in Hawkfield, where Declan Flaherty and Cathal McCabe notched the vital points late on for the hosts.

The Lilywhites had been four adrift when McCabe grabbed their goal on the half-hour mark and Down went in at the half leading 0-14 to 1-9.

David Herity’s men got themselves level within six minutes of the restart and, despite falling behind again, they were able to snatch the win late on.
