Killyon 1-15

A late Killyon surge helped them overcome a spirited Blackhall side in this Hurling League Division 1A clash played in Batterstown on Saturday evening.

In an entertaining contest Killyon who opened the scoring were made fight for the points as it was the home side who made the early running when Tom Murphy finished to the net a fine team move on the 15 minute mark. It was the second time the ball would find the net inside the opening quarter following a disallowed Blackhall effort. Niall Mangan and Dermot Carty added points for the Gaels as the sides continued to trade scores. Killyon settled well however in the second quarter and began to impose themselves on the Gaels but Emmet Dalton on the Blackhall line was in fine form stopping well on two occasions but Killyon would hit three unanswered points to lead by a slender two points at the half time whistle 0-9 1-4.

In the second half Blackhall started to overpower Killyon and quickly reeled in the scoreline. Dermot Carty was well on form from placed balls while Shane Whitty helped himself to a brace from play. Blackhall best phase would see them go two ahead when Carty fired over a 65 with Stephen Morris following up with a point. Blackhalls lead was short lived as minutes later Killyon found themselves with men over close to the Blackhall goal and despite the best efforts from Dalton again Killyon finished with the rebound. Killyon rattled off another two points to put them three clear. Blackhall tried to close the gap but the final whistle came too early for the Gaels. Final score in Batterstown 1-15 1-12.
