Inishowen GAA club notes
February 03, 2009
Buncrana
It was another hectic weekend on the hurling front with the u10s and u12s in action. The under-12s were in action twice and Friday night saw them in action in the Aura leisure centre Letterkenny. This was a demonstration of a new form airborne indoor hurling being developed with an emphasis on the air skills of hurling - catching and striking. We fielded two teams and both gave a good account of themselves.
The u10s fielded two teams in the Antrim u10 indoor competition. Team one competed in Aileach Youth Club where 8 teams competed, all from Donegal. Our boys won 6 and lost only 1 to a strong Burt team. Team two made the journey to Coleraine, winning 1 and losing 4.
This tournament is testament to the North Antrim Board who have dealt with the massive growth of this format by including a Donegal section. This league now includes 47 clubs from five counties in Ulster,
The u12s were back in Letterkenny on Sunday for the actual Airborne blitz at two venues, team one in the community centre and team two in the Aura Centre. Team one won 2 and lost 3 team two won 2 drew 2 and lost 2.
A special mention must go to dual star Jack O'Loughlin who was short-listed for the RTÉ production of "C'mon Caman". He travelled to Dublin on Sunday for skills testing and interview; if Jack is successful he will be one of just 24 in Ireland and will avail of expert tuition from some of the best coaches in the country and get television fame into the bargain!
