Jim McGuinness is hoping to unearth players who can compete at the highest level.

As he embarks on his second spell in charge of Donegal, the 2012 All-Ireland SFC winning manager told Highland Radio that is the single biggest challenge facing him and his selectors Colm McFadden and Neil McGee.

“The size of the county and the number of clubs we have here means we’ll always produce players,” McGuinness said.

“The question is, can we produce players at that elite level? That’s going to be the challenge.

“To be honest, nobody knows the answer to that. We didn’t know the answer to that the last time either. You just don’t know until you start working and moving forward and putting things together.

“For me, the most important thing is creating an honesty around the camp, that if we do end up in second place for whatever reasons, we know that we have given it everything.

“That’s the only way at this stage of my life that I can find solace in defeat, knowing that we couldn’t have got any more out of the lads and knowing that we couldn’t have done any more ourselves.”
