Ciaran Whelan feels Donegal had no attacking "strategy" in the first half of Saturday night's defeat to Armagh.

The absence of Paddy McBrearty and Jamie Brennan was sorely felt as the Tir Chonaill men suffered their third away defeat to finish the weekend bottom of Division 1.

"They'd no strategy at all. It certainly appeared that way in the first half. They refuse to kick the ball. It was handpass, handpass, handpass," the former Dublin midfielder said on RTÉ's Allianz League Sunday.

"I think they need a complete rebuild from an attacking point of view. I think Jamie Brennan and (Paddy) McBrearty when they come back, will benefit from a focal point inside on the square.

"They need to change the focus and get a target man on top of the square."
