There will be no lotto draw next Monday night due to holidays, but it will return on Monday 23rd July with a record jackpot on offer of £6300.
Appeal
Members, have we been robbed or has someone a bag of balls in the boot and has forgotten to return them to the store - Philip informed the meeting last Wednesday night that a bag of senior size 5 senior footballs has gone missing from the store which now makes a grand total of 14 gone walkies this year; £30 each to replace = £420, money we can't afford. Could everyone check around and see if we can solve the problem, and keep Philip updated.
Senior Football
The Seniors travelled to Ballinascreen to play Glen in the final of the McGlinchey Cup on Thursday past. A small but vocal crowd attended the match which was played in near perfect conditions considering the deluge of rain that had fallen earlier in the day. Castledawson started very brightly and gained control straight away; Aidan McElhone played the ball into Niall McNicholl straight from the throw in and he tucked the ball past the advancing keeper to give the 'dawson the perfect start; points from Conor Scullion and Paddy Henry stretching the advantage. Glen did fight back, and replied with a couple of frees from O'Neill and Kelly. The always-dangerous Paddy Henry increased Castledawson's advantage once again, then McCamley from play and Seamus McNicholl exchanged points. Nearing the end of the first half, Niall McNicholl pointed after poor defending in the Glen defence, and the 'dawson tagged on further points from Colm Heaney and Conor Scullion to go in at the break 1-7 to 0-4 in front.
The second half started with little fluency with fouls aplenty. Paddy Henry tucked over a point, Bradley replying for Glen. In the seventh minute of the second half, Martin O'Kane gained possession in the Castledawson defence, he fed Seamus McNicholl at midfield who in turn slipped the ball down the wing to the marauding Martin Heaney; a Glen midfielder came charging at the Dawson man, but the brute force and power of Heaney left his opponent flailing on the ground. Heaney proceeded to carry the ball towards goal, played a one-two with Scullion before laying in Colm Heaney who blasted the ball to the top corner of the net from 14 yards for a quite fabulous and expertly worked team goal. Castledawson continued to exert pressure on the Glen defence, and in the 12th minute were rewarded for their pressure with another 3 pointer from Colm Heaney, who coolly slotted the ball past the onrushing Glen keeper to leave 12 points between the sides. After this, the whites seemed to take their foot of the pedal and a little bit of complacency crept into their game. Glen started to get a lot of possession, and decisions from the referee, and began to put the Castledawson defence under pressure. Midfielder McCamley was moved into full forward and with Kelly and Bradley pumping high balls into the danger area, Glen were getting chances. "Snowy" Bradley tapped over a point, and with time running out, Ciaran "Snowball" O'Neill broke through the Dawson rearguard to drill the ball in off the crossbar and into the net for a well deserved goal. Glen continued to threaten, and added further points from Kelly and McKenna but it was Seamus McNicholl who notched the last score of the game from a free. Final Score : Castledawson 3-9, Glen 1-8.
Chris Gallagher, Stephen Doyle and Martin O'Kane performed manfully in defence, with the delectable Declan Lavery and the mercurial Martin Heaney pillars of strength at centrefield and Paddy Henry, Colm Heaney and Seamus McNicholl ever impressive in attack. Skipper Aidan McElhone received the cup on behalf of the team with euphoria, spoke at great length about playing with athletes of the calibre of Martin Heaney, Joe 'Hamstring' O'Kane and Conor Scullion and wished manager Philip Bradley, who was unable to attend due to illness, a speedy recovery.

Cul Camp
A total of 79 (39 girls and 40 boys) local children attended the Castledawson "Cul Camp" on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th July. The coaching was provided by County Board coaches and was of a high quality. The young people had an action packed few days and proved themselves adept at dodging the occasional shower! In addition, the young players received free playing kits and rucksacks - expect to see plenty of "Cul" jerseys around our community in the coming weeks. A big thank you from St Malachy's to Brian Smith, Chris Collins, Joe McGurk, Kevin Hinphey, Kate Crozier, Mark Collins, Colm Murphy, Diarmuid Scullion and of course, our own Paddy Henry for their skill and patience. Well done to all the children for your exemplary behaviour. We look forward to a bigger and better "Cul Camp" next year.
