CREDIT UNION DERRY CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
LAVEY LIFT FIFTH SENIOR TITLE
Lavey 2-13
Castledawson 3-2
Lavey avenged their 2006 defeat at the hands of Castledawson on Sunday, putting in a fine display to lift their fifth Derry senior title. Lavey were in sparkling form in all sectors of the park, and were 4 points up within the first 5 minutes. Castledawson registered their first score fifteen minutes in, with 2 successive frees converted by Katie McAuley. A goal late on from Maria Taggart and 2 points from frees by Claire McCloy left the score at half time Lavey 2-5 Castledawson 1-2.
With the Lavey half-backs in good form, particularly player of the match, Alana Ward, Castledawson were finding it hard to get through while at the other end, the Lavey forwards were finding it much easier to score, with points from Claire McCloy, Paula McCloy and Attracta McPeake. With 10 minutes to go, Catledawson piled on the pressure and were rewarded with 2 goals from Geraldine Mulholland and Katie McAuley but Lavey were not be denied and late points from Paula McCloy and Helen O'Neill secured the victory for them. Good luck to the Lavey players and management in the Ulster Championship.
Lavey scorers: Mary O'Kane 2-0, Claire McCloy 0-5, Paula McCloy 0-3, Attracta McPeake (0-3), Denise McCann and Helen O'Neill (0-1 each).
