Derry Senior Hurling panel for 2007 announced
December 08, 2006
The provisional Derry senior hurling panel was announced on Friday, with several new faces coming into the fold, while other key names from last year's Nicky Rackard Cup winning squad are missing.
Following his scoring heroics for Eoghan Rua that took his side to an unprecedented Junior and Intermediate double, Sean Leo McGoldrick is called up alongside his brother Barry. Stephen Henry and the Dodds brothers from Lavey come in, with Slaughtneil's minor county-winning manager Eoin McGuigan coming in with his centre-back, Cormac McKenna. Out are the likes of Kieran Stevenson (Banagher), Emmett McKeever (Kevin Lynch's), Paul Sweeney (Kevin Lynch's), Gregory Biggs (Banagher) and John O'Dwyer (Banagher) - all of whom started the Nicky Rackard final in which Sean McBride's hat-trick saw them past Donegal.
Drawn with new boys Armagh in the opening round, which will be played at Casement on 13th May, the Gabriel O'Kane-managed side will expect to meet Antrim in the provincial semi-final. Brian McGilligan and Sean 'Roe' McCloskey are also on board as the Oak Leaf caman-wielders look to build on the success of 2006.
