Its time to mive on from McEntee. There are plenty of alternatives within the ciunty who are now involved with other counties l(McGowan, Sloyane) to name 2. Breheny and O Hara would be in the mix also. A decent seaon but as another mentioned we only beat London dnd New York in the championship and some poor sides in the league. A new inside man is needed to integrate some of the successful ynderage talent of the last few years up to senior level and bring a few players which the manager fell out with back on board under a new mgmt team. Hopefully he is head hunted by another county but failing that its time to change

Replying To eoinog: "MC Entee is doing a very good job. The last time we were in Div 3 I don't think we won a game. We have won 9 out of the last 11 games in the league and we are on an upward trajectory. Isn't it great to be in this position and knowing that we have good players to come on board in the next few years. As it stands we are still a very young team. Dean Rock retired recently with a bagful of medals and I heard him say he was 23/24 before he broke into the Dublin team and they weren't the all conquering team at that time. Once we got rid of the Daddy's on the sideline at underage, success arrived. How many titles did we throw away? What I like about MC Entee is that he doesn't give a flying f..K what people think of his style. I don't always agree with it but you can't argue with what he has done as a player or manager. He doesn't get involved with referees, sideline officials or doesn't make sensational headlines. When Towey got his red card, there was no question of an appeal. You take your punishment. Sligo never had as an experienced manager. Someone mentioned 3 players not involved. Rooney got loads of chances and never nailed a spot, Kyle Cawley I don't think is even playing club football. Haven't seen him with Mary's in a few years and Gaughan chose not to commit. This happens all the time. For the Down game we are on a hiding to nothing as no one is expecting anything." This post hasnt aged very well. Anytime Sligo have played a half decent side they have been beaten comprehensively - a 12 point defeat today. Our record in Connacht against the big 3 in the last 3 championship seasons has been dismal. A combined defocit of 46 points over 3 games shows how far we have slipped behind the likes of Mayo, Roscommon and Galway. If you regard that as McEntee been successful, you are delusional.

Replying To SeánStagg: "Hi Eoinog,
I generally wouldn't waste my time responding to personal attacks from somebody with an obvious gripe against Ballymote, but these attacks have been persistent for some time now. You also made another comment regarding the state of Corran park and our inability to bring through young players which you later deleted in either cowardice or regret that you had made inaccurate statements driven by a personal agenda towards Ballymote.
Firstly I will deal with your continuous calls on Jack Lavin to leave Ballymote.
I am presuming you have no knowledge of the type of person Jack is. Jack is heavily involved in the club and driving it to keep improving not just on the field but off the field too. Whenever called upon to help in fundraising, underage coaching or whatever it may be he has never said no, and in many instances he is offering his time to the club on his own accord.
He is a credit to his family and his club and is someone we are immensely proud to have in our club.
For any Gael to suggest a player should leave a club for any other reason than the club is about to fold or cannot field or is not training to any credible level is pretty disgusting. I don't like naming other player or clubs but by your logic should Paul McNamara leave Johns, what if St Pats or Castleconnor were to be relegated should Mulligan or Carrabine move on. One of the greatest traits of Seán Carrabine in my eyes is his love for his club and how he drives them on whenever he is available and I think that love and pride of where your from is the epitome of the GAA.
You may retort back Ballymote is a big town and should be doing better.
I agree we should be higher up the divisions in league in championship. But to say there is no ambition or we are not trying is a fallacy.
Ballymote were Senior from 2004 to 2014 and haven't hit those heights since, we took our eye off the ball in terms of underage for a number of years for sure but over the last ten years a serious amount of work is been doing to move the club in the right direction.
It is only now in the last 3 years we are starting to see the players trickle through from this work. If we have everyone fit and available our first 15 would have approx 12 players under the age of 23.
2022 under 20 team - Jack Lavin (Captain) & Cian Kilcoyne
2024 Minor Panel - James Lavin (Captain) & Conor Walsh (only 15)
2024 Manning Cup Panel - 5 players, only St. Marys had as many
Just a few examples above of the progress of our underage players. I know there are no certainties in bringing through players and that drop off in all clubs between the ages of 17 & 21 is a huge issue but we are working hard in Ballymote to drive a cultural change and the likes of Jack Lavin are key drivers in this.
In your deleted comment you also questioned the state of Corran Park and made reference that we don't even cut the grass. This sort of cheap untrue comment highlights again the disingenuous nature of your commentary towards Ballymote.
Again would agree going back a number of years the ground had fallen into disrepair but again a massive amount of work has gone into improving both the pitch and surrounding grounds. I could counter this and comment on other grounds around the county but I'm not in the business of been negative for the sake of it and making personal attacks on other clubs. I would like to say I think most grounds in the county have improved greatly in the past few years. We played in both Farnans and Curry recently and would have to commend both clubs on the improvements to the playing surfaces there. In Ballymote we have a dedicated groundsman who takes great pride in the pitch and we are lucky to have him. We have added a score board and running track in recent years along with new fences and both the stand and dressing rooms have received a facelift, with a new toilet block also constructed.
For all these reasons it makes me think your comments are personal attacks rather than constructive and objective opinion.
When you have time please also research the proposed development to take place in Brother Walfrid and Corran Park, funding already secured for the first phase.
You are entitled to your opinion even if it based on a chip on your shoulder but there is a lot of good happening in Ballymote at the minute, European rowing champions, All Ireland Handball and Boxing Champions, Girls and Boys representing Ireland internationally in Soccer, a thriving Athletic club producing connaught and All Ireland winners and GAA club doing its bloody best to keep improving and most importantly providing a healthy and positive outlet for the young people in our town.
I'm Seán Stagg from Ballymote, who are you Eoinog?" Well said. That should put him in hos place.

Replying To The_analyser: "Hard luck Pearses a brave effort leveled the game up 0-6 a piece then arrived the Corofin goal totally against the run of play and then two quick point, was no way back for Pearses then.
On another day Pearses could have got two penalties and the cards was quicker handed out to Pearses players. Not going to do a Mr O Hara on it and blame the ref for losing. Well done Corofin on their deserved win or be it the margin of 6 points somewhat flattered them." Thought referee had a good game. Dont think either decision was a penalty. Pearses can have no complaints that they got either. Pens would not have altered the final result. Overall think ref had a good game.

Replying To Sligonian: "By all accounts yesterday was very poor. McEntee himself said he was "mad" is more his emotions after the game.
Carrying into 3 players, giving away possession, very poor discipline, several frees brought forward, no punch, going nowhere with the ball.
McEntee said the pressure of Div3 maybe an issue for the players. Ball in possession a problem. " our target is to be promoted, hopefully as champions" easily said.
Most reports I got were, we looked a mess, we look like no gameplan, didn't know what to do, no structure to our attacks,
This is McEntee's 4th year and he pretty much uses the same players, should he not be mad at himself? Does the team not reflect the manager and his mistakes. We were here last year after Laois. He picked an atrocious team that day and I was angry when I saw the 26 and then starting 15 yday. 4 or 5 of the starting 15 wouldn't make the 26 if I was manager and players continue to regress within this set up.
I have always felt it was a mistake keeping McEntee on another year. I think he's very poor on team selection and tactics. I don't really see how he develops or improves players. Where is the evidence? 3 months of preparation and 3 years of developing that squad and your team produces that yday?
For me we were always far more likely to go down than up. The players and management can talk about promotion all they want but you keep picking this starting 15 and you'll get a rude awakening.
We are vunerable against Wicklow but starting Alan Mcloughlin and home advantage should see us win that one. Towey will be suspended. Hopefully Canice and Joe make the 26. Hopefully we can stay up as its like its going to be tough year for the seniors." Totally agree Sligonian. He picks his favorites. Some on the 26 has been terrific servants to the county but its time to freshen up the team/squad with younger players who have been successful at under age.Mayo started Tuohy, Callinan and Reid yesterday whereas Keaney, Mulligan who beat these guys 2 years in a row didnt make the Sligo 26. McEntee/ Keane should have went long ago. A lose next weekend should be the final straw but it probably wont.

Replying To Timmy86: "A county holds its breath for sligo CLUB FOOTBALL game . ...HA HA HA HA ,brilliant" If winning 7 in a row championships makes us unpopular then i dont have an issue with that. Its a natural reaction to a successful team. End of an era today and its been coming for a while. Appetite just wasnt thete this year and complacency today didnt help against a good young hungry team. But i can only have praise for this group of Tourlestrane players ( some of whom will unlikely play again) the sacrifices and dedication over the last number of years will be phenomenal. With little comi g through from underage and the the bigger north Sligo clubs getting their act together it may be a while again.

Replying To muscles: "I am writing him off as I know he needed to show McEntee something to get a chance, I'm only writing him off only as I know McEntee is unlikely to give him a chance unless something dramatic changes
It's very hard for to select a player for a league game in January when that player does not train well or plays well in challenge games in January, especially when that player has not shown himself to be capable at this level yet. He can't select a player because a lad over in Canada from his club wrote on the internet that he could be a big game player and only plays well in big games. I am still hoping Joe will be the answer to our midfield woes in the future, he is still very young" I think Keaney played a few Sigerson games in January also - so it was a busy month for him. If the manager considers the 3 midfielders on the panel last Sunday as our starters then the season will not go well. The only way to give a young upcoming player a chance is to throw him in and give him a chance. Mayo did so at the weekend with Callinan, Reid Tuohy.

Replying To eoinog: "Usual ***** from the management. We won't know the team until the throw in I suppose. Really annoying and insulting to supporters (all counties not just Sligo). They are hardly going to . pull a rabbit out of a hat by naming Pat Hughes in goal and Devanney corner forward. Murphy I assume is out but after that I have no idea what team will start" If they were picking on form and picking players if their usual positions you might have some notion as to the starting team. My guess would be there will 2 wing backs starting at wing forward, a forward starting in midfield, a midfielder starting at wing back. A lot of square pegs in round holes. Meanwhile there are better players sitting on the bench and other players like Lally, Nicolson, C Breheny, L Gaughan, GOKL, JF Carr,, Ryan Feehily, McKenna, Carroll, Cawley who won't play for the current mgmt. If we are to lose at the weekend th only positive will be it will be the last game of the McEntee/Keane era.

Replying To eoinog: "No one can question the credentials of our manager. He has won All Ireland for county and club, and coached similarly. We always seem to be able to find a player that we perceive to be hard done by and then blame the manager. Other years it was Johnny Kelly . I'm at a loss to know how we have slipped further down the ladder. I incorrectly thought we had hit the bottom of last year. Clare are a Div 2 teams that got hammered also, as did Down against Donegal. The top two teams are a bit ahead of the next 5 or 6 teams who are then light years ahead of everyone else" Nonsense. He coached his own club team, the best club team in recent years to an all ireland. He coached Castlblayney and they nearly got relegated last year after reaching ulster final previous year.
His tactics on Saturday seemed to suggest he expected a tight game going with an orthodox formation. This was a team who conceded high scores in all their games so far. Substitutions were bizarre, Gaughan scores a great point from 50 metres, 2 minutes later he is substituted. What's that about? Players have spoken about his blunt and ignorant attitude. Players were not informed why they were dropped from the team or the 26. This guy is not the answer to our problems.

Replying To Sligoandkerry: "Yeah that soccer and rugby reason is irrelevant. There's plenty of interest.
The problem of our unsuccessfullness is our lack of leadership on the pitch. The days of mark breheny, Eoh had plenty of leaders. We seem to have TOO much youth in our squad of players" I'm not just referring to Sligo players who have made it at professional clubs although Conan O'Donnell, Stephen Kerins (ex Sligo minor) and Cillian Gallagher play with Connacht. I'm referring to the soccer culture around Sligo town, Ballisodare, Cooloney, Ballymote (our biggest population areas). Tubbercurry is going in the same direction. Rovers sign up youngsters to underage contracts and prevent them from playing other sports and then when they are not deemed good enough release them and the players miss out on a number of years of GAA development.
There is also the cohort who would prefer to sit at home and play on the x-box.
Also just another point the County champions are competitive in the Connacht championship. If other teams came up to their level and had a competitive championship it would give some preparion for a much tougher championship against battle hardened teams.

Replying To MrUnderhill: "If we didn't already know it, we know now after Sunday that L Gaughan and GOK need to be in the Sligo panel next year. Its the managers job to convince them to commit, not sure he has those skills, in D4 we need the best 25 in the county on the panel. That said many of the existing panel didn't shine in this seasons championship, not going to name names....will they automatically get the call again for 2023? September/October is the test of club players ability, not preseason in Janurary. Anyone else that we should see next season?" It's because of the manager that the two players mentioned are mot on the panel. I doubt they will be returning until he has been replaced.

Replying To Sligoman1234: "Ya don't paint a pretty picture if half of what you say is true. Whatever about the politics you're on about it people should leave politics out of the GAA as it has a political scene of its own. Taylor was always going to have those accusations around him anyway so I'm sure he's used to that.
Tbh regardless of his politics or his playing career he simply hasn't got the results winning as someone said 16% of the games in two years. If he has sense he'll walk before being pushed. While he may have an impressive backroom team ultimately the book stops with him. Also I'd say they're not doing it out of the goodness of their heart and are charging too so I'd wonder if the current set up is any cheaper than the previous one. Anyway it shouldn't be about getting cheap lads as we see the results of that.
Perhaps some of the backroom team would be interested in the role if they're up to it and believe in the panel of players they have. There'll always be someone to take on a county team, their motivations however may not be always in the best place. As for our Treasurer, all I can say is that its on the backs of the clubs that things have improved. Every club is levied to the hilt with Club Sligo targets to hit at a time when most people wouldn't go to the garden to watch them." He won't be pushed for footballing reasons. It will be totally political.
This is a laughable statement. Under his management team Sligo have won 3 out of 18 games. Doe that not deserve removal for footballing reasons? One of the criticisms of county board is giving him a second year having lost every game last year. It is was blatantly clear he was out of his depth.

2 rounds into the National league for 2025 and most teams from what I've viewed either live or on TV have adapted well to the new rules. The one notable exception is my own county, Sligo who seem to still want to play under the old rules. The manager has come out to the media and made comments like 'he is not a fan of the new rules' and 'the new rules don't suit us'. His failure to adapt has resulted in defeats and -13 of score difference. He has picked a panel without a ball winning midfielder (with the possible exception of Lally) and he continues to persist with Devaney in goals (who has been excellent for us over the last few years) who is not suited to the 12 v 11 scenario which most teams are trying to exploit. Solo and go has not been used very much and 2 pointers (we haven't scored too many if those yet). So Tony I know it's not in your nature but it's time for change.

I doubt very much that the substitutions were preplanned, that would very amateurish. The management have access to stats from GPS pads and stats packages. Surely such decisions are based on this data. My issue with the management however is that it has taken until game 4 for them to realise that the goalkeeper is not suited to the new rules and to shakeup the midfield pairing. This resulted in our best performance, most points scored. Hopefully its n
ot too late but if we go down the blame will lay squarely with McEntee and Co.

Replying To eoinog: "Good post. We are on the same wavelength. I have said umpteen times that i never spoke or met MC Entee and my posts are based on the progress that we have made. It's slightly ironic that everyone is in agreement that we are not fit for Div 2 and with 3 rounds left we had secured our place in Div 3 for next year. Yet certain posters are coming on here with little knowledge of Sligo football with unjust criticism of the manager. Some poster refer to players that should be on the panel even though they are not playing club football and another mentions a stand out player from last year's championship,, however that player is still U.20 and to include him in seniors would be a travesty.
Our next target should be to win the Tailteann Cup. It won't be won this year. I firmly believe that in 3 years time we should be in Div 2. I also think that MC Entee will leave this summer, leaving Sligo in a much better place than he got us. There will be a lot of pressure on the next manager to continue the progress. If you take a quick look at other counties on this page you will find that most of the keyboard warriors want their manager gone also." It wouldn't been difficult to improve our standing after the shambles of the previous regime

Under 20'S - 1 Like(s)
Lesson that needs to be learned from last weekend is to leave the players who are eligible for Under 20 with their age group and not to promote these players until after under 20 has been completed. There is a greater chance of us winning provincial at that grade that at senior. There will be calls to promote Red Og to the senior panel next year, this should be resisted. Allow him to play in his own age group and to enjoy his football.
