You're right surely Lock, I wish him the very best. It was like a punch in the stomach when I heard it this morning but when I got over that I can only hope the lad succeeds there. I'm sure he'll be back in the green and gold before too long, he's only a pup and please god has a long career ahead of him. I'd say it was Murphys choice not to head down under more than anything else, he seems like the kind of person who gets a nosebleed if he's away from his beloved county for too long.

That's the spirit!! Why no Langan, is that injury he came off with a few weeks back worse than it looked? WeGoAgain (Donegal) - Posts: 232 - 14/10/2026 20:36:34 2697339 Link 1 |

I think Langan is a fair few years too old at this stage. Im nearly i sure remember when Gallagher was over us, Eoin ban and a few of them went down for trials or whatever but nothing came off it. Langan would be around that age bracket.

I remember Niall Moyna telling the story at a function in Letterkenny one night of how they took him out to the big open fields in North County Dublin to help him get over his home sickness when he moved to DCU first!

The GAA will be under pressure with all this AFL rubbish. What a superb talent, going down under. RoyalStalwart24 (Meath) - Posts: 129 - 14/10/2026 21:05:14 2697347 Link 0 |

According to some , his injury is worse than initially thought. That could be hearsay though. Hope it is.

Eh what Donegal player was at the levels of the previous year? Strange one to pick out the young man as if he dipped solo.

are they the same people who were saying before the Down game that he was out for the whole year, yet he ended up on the ulster all stars team for 2026

Can we all take a deep breath here. McGuinness is going nowhere, for next year at least. For now, we've lost one of the best young players in the country and I'm as sad about that as the next man. Chances are he'll be back, maybe sooner, maybe later. Langan will likely be grand. We don't want him slogging it out in the mckenna cup or even the early part of the league in any event. Who knows who Jim might bring into the panel or who might progress and step up another gear next year. Thompson should be getting back up to the levels by next year, he's definitely not near ready for the scrap heap yet. Murphy still has plenty to offer in whatever capacity that might be. Malone will improve again next year I've no doubt. Last year didn't work out for whatever reason but we're still the bookmakers second favourites to land Sam and they're usually not a million miles off the mark. Let's just see where it takes us.

If Langan is injured and out for 6 months, it could be a blessing in disguise. If it means he can revover and rehab behind the scenes and get up to speed for Championship it could be a good thing. I don't think we need to be playing the likes of himself, Murphy, McHugh, in the League that much, and certainly not in the McKenna Cup. You would be correct in saying it was "strange" in picking Finbarr out after the championship ended but this wasn't the case. My post was a reactionary response to yesterday morning's reports about this news. Like many Donegal supporters I turned white when I read it and it got me reflecting about the summer. The fact that I turned white shows the esteem I hold him as a player and the great sense of loss we feel by losing such a massive talent. I did put up a couple of lengthy posts here about what went wrong months ago but they didn't post. I could only really pick Murphy, Langan (even not 100%), Mogan and maybe Jason McGee who reached the required levels.

I dunno. I just seen some comments on Facebook and other social media places. Anyway as others have said we don't need to be playing our best 15 every week in the league like last year. Hoping for a good year. Looking forward to seeing who's new to the squad. I really hope Gallen gets back to his best eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 484 - 15/10/2026 19:42:21 2697465 Link 0 |

How's it rubbish? Getting paid well in a sunny country with lots to do is better than living in rural Donegal or Ireland as a whole. Most only go away for a few years anyway. He could very well be back within 2-3 years. Best of luck to him. Donegal got off lightly compared to other counties down the years. Could have lost Gallen too if memory serves me eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 484 - 15/10/2026 19:44:42 2697466 Link 1 |

Collingwood scout was in Ireland May time I think! Same scout who was with geelong that scouted Mullins from Mayo. The player criteria is there to be scouted especially this tagger role. Tasmania are putting in an afl team next year or following year and they've a free pick of getting a squad together ! It's certainly not rubbish, but I wouldn't say it's a lot better. For some it is, for others it isn't. It all depends on the person. Some people in Ireland have a very strong attachment to place and community. We all know plenty who have lived in Australia. Some love it, others came home and missed their community. Conor McKenna was on the radio this morning and while he has done brilliantly over there, he has missed home badly and is back at every opportunity. He said he gets paid to play sport and that's the challenge. The very best of luck to Finbarr. A brilliant player. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 3119 - 16/10/2026 12:19:12 2697526 Link 0 |
