No one can objectively say Banty performed better than O'Rourke. Banty for a third term, no thanks. I appreciate the time and effort he has put in for Monaghan teams, 13 years when you take into minor and U21/U20 and happy for him he got an ulster championship at minor level - and even at that you could say he underperformed with that minor group because at U16 level they were arguably the best team in Ireland.

Banty has consistently at county level been found lacking tactically and his chest thumping motivational style only works as the exception. Over the course of a competition, he's always found out. There has been some deserved criticism of previous U20 management teams e.g.. Paul Curran in 2022. Don't forget Banty was U20 manager in his second stint at U20 during 2019 and 2020, - record was 2 games, 2 first round exits.

A third term for Banty is very unappealing. Yeah, he'll get the buy in from players in terms of commitment and by all means, no expense is spared from what I've heard and players are well looked after. But what matters most is on the pitch and he's always been behind the curve tactically. Banty has always been a follower, rather than a tactical innovator, no matter who he has in as coach. Ultimately he makes the final decision.

You're missing the point. It's not the manager, it's what tactical geniuses he can bring with him. As you say, no expense spared. It's a no brainer.

Have to agree with this, Banty as next Monaghan manger is a no brainer, not for his tactical genius but for the funds he will provide to bring in a top class coach and backroom team. One thing for sure is that Monaghan will be a professional outfit with him as manager. You can bring in the all the outside guys you want but they would be in it for the money and nothing else, I'd say Banty would give all his money away for Monaghan to win an All Ireland .!!!

It is a no brainer - he shouldn't get the role. No matter who Banty brings is as coach, he is such an alpha figure that he will make the tactical calls, decide on the substitutions and pick the team. And that is where he has fallen down in the past. His boom and bust motivational style can work as a once off but is not sustainable.

where were those tactical geniuses when we collapsed in the 2nd half against Cavan? Stuck in the 'spiders web' along with the players maybe?! I cannot fathom that he could end up on the line for us again.

Replying To Farneyarmy2013:  "Predications for this weekend-

Blackhill v Drumhowan = Drumhowan to pull away at the end but I think it will be close. Extra time last week won't help Blackhill

Kileevan vs Monaghan Gaa - kileevan to get their first win of the championship in court

Aughnamullen vs Emyvale- Leaning towards Aughnamullen however all depends on Micheal bannigans fitness

Harps vs Clones - Clones by 2

Truagh vs clontibret - Truagh by 4. Darren o neill louis Kelly back in. Moving well and some tidy fowards

Scotstown vs Iniskeen - can't see anyway Iniskeen get a result everything has to go their way."
I agree with all these except the Clontibret one. I think Vinny and Marty Corey will do a job on Louis Kelly and young Oneill. Mansy and the veteran Kennan will cause Truagh serious problems. I can see Truagh getting into a lead but Clontibert fighting back. The young mone fell half back (think his name is dessie) will be going forward more as he scored last minute winner few weeks back against Truagh.

If banty hadn't a penny he wouldn't have got back in a 2nd time never mind being considered for a 3rd time, he's had 8/9 attempts at an Ulster title with ZERO success.. can't see how it's going to be any different this time, all we're going to get is the best decked out county team around playing in front of deserted stands…

Tony staying with Down I think, was involved with Laverty this year and that ticket remaining in place. Definitely support for John, if he could somehow topple Scotstown (took them to extra time in final last year don't forget) it would no doubt strengthen the case. Backroom team will not be all outsiders if he gets it.

Peter Donnelly , Conor laverty and Ray Boyne from Dublin were part of his management team in his last spell.
