Remember Mullinaughta had won 2 or 3 in a row before they won Leinster. It is a bridge too far to say Clonguish will make an impact on Leinster this year. When they win 2 or 3 in a row they can start talking about Leinster.

Indeed. No Longford club has even won a single game in Leinster since Mullinalaghta won the title in 2018. So lets start with hoping a club can at least win a game or two before we start thinking anyone can win it out.

Didnt get to any of the above mentioned games but I did take in Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta. The men from The Laurels gave it everything but came up just short in the end. They will count themselves unlucky to be in the position they're in but they have to get out of it now. Abbeylara were impressive in spells and executed some fine two pointers to build up a lead of 9 points to 1. However, some poor defending gave Mullinalaghta a lifeline of a goal to keep them within 5 points at HT. When abbey scored the penalty after 50 mins and Mullinalaghta got the black card you felt it was curtains but to their credit they fought til the very end with some fine two pointers to get right back into it. Overall, Abbeylara did deserve the win. Watched back Rathcline and Ardagh Moydow, Ardagh Moydow deserve huge huge credit for how they have applied themselves this year. They really went against the trend of previous intermediate champions and had a cut at it and got their rewards. Looked a beaten docket at half time, whatever was said in the dressing room really must've drove them on. Ratchline only scored 3 second half points and were wasteful at times. Quarter final for Ardagh Moydow to look forward to now against Clonguish. Very tough draw but no doubt they will give it a go and see where it takes them. Quarter finals throwing up some very interesting ties, particularly Killoe v Granard and Dromard v Colmcille. Relegation series is going to be very interesting and whoever is the last team standing will have earned it. BadgerDog (Westmeath) - Posts: 40 - 31/08/2026 14:29:08 2692142 Link 0 |

I'm not sure how that game at the weekend is convincing anyone that Clonguish are definties to win the championship!! GAALONGFORD (Longford) - Posts: 42 - 31/08/2026 14:37:43 2692144 Link 0 |

Everyone would bet against that. Killoe will beat Granard comfortably

Minor Championship looks like another Clonguish walk in the park. Played three games, won them by 16, 23 & 24 point margins!!! Heading for 6th title in a row, I don't think any club has won 6 in a row in any football competition in Longford. Incredible period of dominance. Clonguish are probably 3rd favourites for the minor this year. Dromard beat them easily in the league final and Granard won the Under 16 two years ago. There won't be much between any of the 3 teams and you could also throw in the Carrick Sarsfields/Kenagh amalagamation in there with having a chance. All ye lads have lost the run of yourselves on here, but I'm suspecting it is all about trying to put pressure on this very young Clonguish senior team. The reality is, we have not won a senior title in 17 years. Frank74 (Longford) - Posts: 237 - 31/08/2026 16:19:48 2692167 Link 0 |
