For the record the 2nd half it was Roscommon 1-17 Mayo 0-7 was similar and I'm sure the point tommy132 was making. Monaghan will look back at the 2nd half for losing. They had 18 shots on goal compared to Mayos 17 yet shooting efficiency was poor as was standing off the two point shooters. Kept going for goals 11/12 created instead of popping the odd one over the bar all added up in a one point loss. I hope it's Galway v Mayo match next would be a real spicy affair. Mayo will likely get Louth or Westmeath I bet. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 868 - 01/06/2026 12:55:54 2676998 Link 0 |

Social media is toxic and is only going to get worse a lot of it driven by jealousy. Aidan O'Shea has been a great servant to Mayo football and has had a brilliant career, to hell with the begrudgers.

It's pointless looking at half a match. We were 11 points up at halftime yesterday and the wind was a bigger factor yesterday

Oh its not pointless and both Andy Moran and Ryan O'Donoghue remarked about their 2nd half display against Roscommon yesterday I have no doubt the rest of management and players weren't pleased that a 12 point lead became 1 point and hanging on for the win. All will know a similar 2nd half display can't be repeated if hopes of reaching Croke Park is to happen. Journalist Cahair O'Kane made a good point recently on wind advantage. Most think it's what you do when playing with it that matters most when what you can score and concede against the wind can be a telling factor. 1st half yesterday Monaghan with just 0-9 from 18 shots while conceded 1-17 from 17 shots and they'll know they should have defended a lot better on the 6 two pointers conceded especially the last one on the hooter. It is pointless looking at only one half. Andy Moran said yesterday it was all about getting the win which is what we did

It's not pointless you just need to pay a bit more attention to other peoples point of view. What Mayo did to get the win yesterday if repeated the next day probably won't be enough especially against better opposition than Monaghan. Didn't feel like much wind there yesterday Drax. Tricolour seened to be blowing accross the pitch in the first half anyway. Defending should be as dogged in both halves. Our defence hadn't much to do first half because Monaghan attack were less aggressive than the second half . That's when we did struggle especially when they ran at us. Hopefully lessons that can be learned for the next day.

Cant get away with the 2 corner backs, both small and not physical enough, but I would say they weren't terrible yesterday. If you told me McCarron would score 5 and McCarthy 2 points, I would have taken that. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 675 - 01/06/2026 17:55:57 2677079 Link 0 |
