Re-opened the question? I've never heard such a question asked before. We had two lads playing against Roscommon who play for Dublin clubs. Both originally from North Board clubs. Does that re-open a question about North Board lads' commitment to their clubs? Of course it doesn't. It makes as little sense as your supposed question. I don't think we will see McDaid on Saturday; I hope he will be ok for the following game. Jellybaby (Dublin) - Posts: 386 - 18/05/2026 06:21:14 2673717 Link 0 |

The question was never open. How could you begrudge a lad for taking an opportunity within the lifetime time of the opportunity ? All you can do is wish him look, no more than when Ian Burke went off to do his MBA. devrandom (Galway) - Posts: 78 - 18/05/2026 09:29:39 2673742 Link 0 |

Conor Gleeson needs to be in goal from now on. He is a better keeper imho. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2752 - 18/05/2026 12:50:35 2673848 Link 1 |

Gleeson has his faults for sure. He is prone to mistakes when attempting short ones and is not comfortable in possession. I'm not sure in what area Flaherty is superior though - maybe mid range kicks? He hasn't looked comfortable going short either unless it's blatant - i.e. a defender on his own in acres with no real risk involved. Gleeson is a far superior shot stopper (look at Ros 3rd goal in Connacht final where Flaherty was already on the ground before yer man had even shot - brutal goalkeeping) and has a much longer kickout. Neither will kick you points from long range frees to any level of consistency. I can understand dropping Gleeson if there is a much better alternative but on all available evidence I don't believe that to be the case with Flaherty. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1413 - 18/05/2026 13:26:04 2673860 Link 0 |

I'd expect he'll be back in goal v Kildare. Starts for Tierney,Heron and Comer I would think.

Both keepers have there faults listening to Brian Fenton on R.T.E he made the point that continually changing keepers only makes kick outs harder for the outfield players especially midfield as each keeper has their own signals etc and he should know haven spent year's playing with Cluxton

Ive been thinking about what makes a kick out strategy successful and , and, in my opinion there are 2 keys. 1) isolating 1 on 1s where your player clearly has a pace advantage and then pop it in front of him. Problem for us is that we are lacking such pace in the critical areas. 2)when its kicked long break the ball in to intelligent areas and then fight like dogs for it. These are issues that we need to work more on but to be fair to management its not just a strategy issue...its questionable if we have the resources.
