Will this continued conflict have a detrimental influence on our games both intercounty and club . With people's income being eaten up with inflation and day to day costs and possible fuel shortages . Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 568 - 07/04/2026 14:12:23 2665097 Link 0 |

No you are the on the ball. It will definitely have a knock-on affect. Obviously from a Donegal persepctive we are hopeful that we will have a long run in this year's Championship and that will entail a few trips to Dublin if we are successful. Unless the government eases the tax burden on fuel, then it will be financially challenging for a lot of families I would imagine. If things get worse or a solution is not found soon then playing or watching sports will be the least of our worries. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12016 - 07/04/2026 15:00:34 2665106 Link 2 |

I can just about recall the early 70s crisis and it definitely impacted on every area of life involving travel. In fact I think if you look at crowds around that time they were at all time low - well, since 20s probably! I don't think most people realise where this madness might end. I find it rather depressing and wonder what sort of world lies ahead of my grandchildren when these lunatics are finished.... BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 4168 - 07/04/2026 15:01:26 2665107 Link 0 |

If this crisis continues, people will actually be applauding GAA+ They have a comphensive package for armchair supporters this year. More and more people will be forced to join the armchair supporters club Jack L (None) - Posts: 3203 - 07/04/2026 15:15:05 2665111 Link 0 |

30 euro to get a seat at the Leitrim and Sligo game, obviously not affecting the Connacht Council anyway! ohwow (Leitrim) - Posts: 81 - 07/04/2026 15:25:24 2665113 Link 1 |

Add in the fact now that families with 2-3 children going to matches don't get the same time between matches to gather up a few pounds for games. Everything is rushed. So yes, it'll definitely impact attendances.

Yes everything is going to go up in price, and it could be a long time before normality returns. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 10289 - 07/04/2026 15:40:37 2665116 Link 0 |

I wonder does SouthGalway aka Trump2020 have any ideas about what the GAA should do? Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 1932 - 07/04/2026 16:41:25 2665123 Link 0 |

Why would they need to? They're already making their point on the streets of Dublin.

They are targeting the Government, not the GAA. Last time I checked our books I didnt see any income from petrol or diesel taxes.

It has already caused postponements. Unintended consequences are still consequences. I imagine we will see others called off tomorrow if nothing comes of meeting supposed to be at 2. If they don't meet protestors everything will be closed. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 4168 - 10/04/2026 12:43:07 2665575 Link 0 |
