Trumps Conflict - What Influence Will It Have On The GAA

Will this continued conflict have a detrimental influence on our games both intercounty and club . With people's income being eaten up with inflation and day to day costs and possible fuel shortages . How long will it be before families wont be able to afford to attend championship games . Or drive their children all over county or country to games . Might sound dramatic but if it doesn't end or abate soon I can see it impacting as much as Covid . I hope I'm wrong. No you are the on the ball. It will definitely have a knock-on affect. Obviously from a Donegal persepctive we are hopeful that we will have a long run in this year's Championship and that will entail a few trips to Dublin if we are successful. I can just about recall the early 70s crisis and it definitely impacted on every area of life involving travel. In fact I think if you look at crowds around that time they were at all time low - well, since 20s probably! I don't think most people realise where this madness might end. Add in the fact now that families with 2-3 children going to matches don't get the same time between matches to gather up a few pounds for games. Everything is rushed. Yes everything is going to go up in price, and it could be a long time before normality returns. Who knows what "a whole civilization will die tonight" exactly means? Unintended consequences are still consequences. I imagine we will see others called off tomorrow if nothing comes of meeting supposed to be at 2.
