As a Galway man, I still find it hard to look past Ballygunner here. The reason why is to win an All-Ireland you need a stone-cold killer upfront. Loughrea forwards are missing that ruthlessness and real class to finish teams off. A Conor Cooney, Joe Canning or Eugene Cloonan. They have a lot of forwards chipping in but no real elite intercounty forward and I think it'll finally catch the in the final. That's probably the only thing they're missing. If Conor Cooney (the Thomas' version) played for Loughrea, I think they'd do it. The have everything else. TanCanRan (Galway) - Posts: 315 - 23/12/2025 19:15:18 2649352 Link 2 |

As a county, Galway joint lead the roll of honour in this event at 14 wins, and have won more than a third of the finals played since the turn of the 90s, encompassing the last 35 finals or so. You can be sure of that.

Galway club sides are always competitive. It does help that one always competes in an AISF too though as regards wins overall. Most of the top clubs theres nothing much between them. Your champions get a bye, while the others have to win 2 or 3 games against similar standard clubs from other counties before they even get there.
