Replying To Mugatay:  "So Sligo away in Markievicz. A repeat of 2010 would be nice. As good as could have hoped for.
That performance v Mayo restored some pride and belief that we can and should put it up to anyone come championship day.
Galway in Carrick the reward.
Hope the panel is forming nicely.
Liatroim abú"
It was 2011, we lost to Roscommon in 2010 by a small enough margin which if fast forward to now would be significant progress. Lets hope 2026 is prosperous for Leitrim, promotion should be well within our sights.

Yes a good draw for sure, and going by last year I expect Poucher not to show his hand until that game. Leitrim were a totally different in the Championship last year after an awful league.

Very true, Leitrim finished the season a much improved side, after a terrible league campaign .
The vibes I hear are positive for the League and I expect them to be in good shape come the game against Sligo.
The county is blessed with some great young talent, especially forwards. However the injury the Donal Casey is a huge setback.

Good luck to Aughavas tomorrow, big ask but a historic win would be a huge shot in the arm for the county.

Can I ask what happens to the players who don't make the combined PPS schools team in Leitrim? Do they play for their own school in another competitive or do they not play senior schools football? Just curious.

I'd imagine all the players on the combined schools team play for their own individual school in the B, C, D, E competitions, that was the way it was in the last couple of years.

If it was, we will take it. Sligo, London and New York as first round games for the next 3 years, great chance to get 3 connacht championship wins in 3 years, that would take us back to 94 when we had that sort of record

I agree with you . You have plenty of young talents coming up. Same as it's a fix for us is well with Rossies at home for Andys first home championship game haha after London assuming we get passed them !

There always is, keeping them involved and motivated to stay involved tends to be issue, sure half the panel dropped off before start of this season give by, the division 1 clubs would struggle in division 3 with that sort of setback. Poacher may not be everyones cup of tea but you cannot blame him for the environment he inherited.
Hopefully the new lads along with the few we might get back will do the business in division 4 and get us the 10-12 points we need for promotion, no point pining after lads not around or committed anymore

Sligo recently have gone miles out ahead of Leitrim. They were once similar and you could go toe to toe with them but I'm afraid they are a level ahead in the last few years.

Hardly, they have beaten us by the bare minimum in a few of the most recent clashes.

League fixtures released today

Away trips to Aughrim (Rd1), Ruislip (Rd3), Semple (Rd5) and Carlow (Rd 7), Wexford (Rd2), Antrim (Rd 4) and Longford (Rd6) coming to Carrick.

Difficult opening three games.

I think Wexford are in Division 3.

It must be Waterford in Round 2.

Now in fairness ye could not have got much better, at home to the lowest ranked team from last year in the opener, a team with zero points in div 4 and -46 score difference last year, surely you must be chalking down 2 points from that one. Anyway great to be getting closer to intercounty action and the slow return to longer evenings.

Very true. A high Div. 3 side (would struggle in Div. 2) versus a mid table Div. 4 side.

Replying To LongBall94:  "This is brilliant news that we should have close to our strongest panel available.

It'll be tough on many of the lads who picked up the baton last year under extremely diffucult circumstances. However, thats high level sport.
I would like the county board to restart having a junior/development panel like we used to a few years back. It could be a good spring board for some of these players that won't make the cut this year along with some of our younger players coming through.

Theres a few issues on the starting team that will need to be sorted out.

At Goalkeeper - Killian Gaffey is the standout Goalkeeper but i'd be worried that Poacher will stick with his buddy from Louth.
By the end of the u20 campaign many of us will be calling for Scott Kerr to be no.1 - hes superb.

With Casey having suffered a serious injury its unlikely we will see him in 2026, that means himself and Jack Foley will be gone from our starting back 6 last year.
Cillian McGloin will move back a line to wing back and I'd fancy Colm McLoughlin from Fenagh to be the other wing back.
We badly need Jack Gilheany at 6. I think Adam Reynolds is now ready to finally fulfill his potential at corner back (along with Eanna McNamara) if he can stay injury free.
Full back is a real issue and i'm not sure who the solution is.

I think Radek Oberwan is now at the level to be McNultys partner at Midfield if he can put down a big winter. A shame Pearce Dolan will not be available. Dolan and McNulty could dominated under the new rules.

In our attack:
We really need Keaney and Guckian to push on - they have serious potential, power and height and can score from distance - all crucial with the new rules.
Tom Prior, Honeyman and Ryan O'Rourke are 3 other guarneteed startes in our forward unit. Thats 5/6 spots taken. For me - the final choice is between Cox, Jordan Reynolds, Darragh Rooney (if available) or he could go for power/engine in Keegan, Flynn, Beezer, McLoughlin etc. Caleb Duffy could be a bolter.

We now have depth and options that we haven't had - its rarely said but the clubs/county board are definitely developing a higher quality of player then before and that without many players who have emmigrated.
Some will disagree but i'd also be trying to add D.Wrynn and S.Moran to the panel which is still very young and lacks some brawn and experience. They'd be brilliant to introduce in the last 25mins.

A last thing, Niall Walsh who was on the panel a few years back but suffered from injuries was one of the best forwards in the Galway championship this year at no.11, Scoring 1.17 and assisting 4.03 going into the final which he won. Will be interesting to see how he fairs out against Leitrim Gaels but he should definitely be looked at again with form like that."
An update to the Leitrim panel for 2026. There may be future additions but at the moment this is where we stand.

From what I'm hearing the guts of the boys who have been asked in have committed and have been training in the last few weeks .
This automatically means we have a far stronger squad then last year.

Saying all that theres still no Jack Gilheany, Jack Foley, David Bruen, Pearce Dolan, Mark Plunkett, Darragh Rooney, Keith Beirne etc. And Donal Casey has a long term injury. No word on Niall Walsh as of yet.

That leaves us without Casey and Foley who were our 2 best defenders in a struggling defence last year.
Gilheaney would start at 6 but isn't commiting, unfortunately. Theres some loose talk that Bruen may be home early in the new year. That would be huge.

We're really going to struggle defensively from what I can see. I don't see a number 3 or 6 ready made for Inter county football.

You would hope that Poachers system and style of football can cover us defensively and then our talented forward line can see us through games.
