Hearing Leitrim gaels down a number of key defenders for this weekends clash with Moycullen which is a difficult task away in pearse stadium. Centre back Donal Casey in a brace and full back David Bruen who came back form Oz for latter stages of county campaign is gone back to Oz and wont be available. Stephen MC Dermott who key man marker at corner back is also gone back to Oz. Difficult for any club team in country to replace 3 starting defenders irrrespective of who they are.

Replying To Leitrim1234:  "The word is the County Seniors are out for the first time this weekend. The talk is that most players who have been asked in have accepted the call.
This leaves us in a really strong position to get promoted back up to Division Three - Anything else would be a failure in reality.

Disappointing to hear the nature of Donal Caseys injury and that he will be out for a few months - Hopefully he can make it back for the middle of the league.
Losing Jack Foley to New York is a huge loss - What he has done in the last two years when you consider his age is phenomenal.
Ryan O'Rourke, Paul Keaney and Killian Gaffey amongst others rejoining the panel is huge.
Hopefully Jack Gilheany and Darragh Rooney are back involved.
It's a pity the likes of Pearce Dolan, David Bruen and Mark Plunkett could not be enticed home as they would really have strengthened the panel.

I can't see /hope theres not the same problems between the Senior and U20 management this year - We have a mix of 5 between both panels (Paul Honeyman, Jack Kelly, Eanna McNamara, Colm McLoughlin and Scott Kerr).

Excited to see how the likes of Colm McLoughlin, Jamie Rynn, Oisin McLoughlin and Jack Kelly go.
Some have said Ryan Donoghue is considering Leitrim once again but I'd see it as unlikely, Same would have to be said for Conal Jones.
Jack Heslin one would imagine will be brought in and helped to regain fitness after how good he looked in the relegation play off for Gort.

I personally wouldn't like to be the one selecting what forwards start on this team.

Am I missing anyone?

Goalkeepers:
Killian Gaffey, Daire O'Shea, Brian Cull, Scott Kerr

Defenders:
Adam Reynolds, Donal Casey*, Eanna McNamara, Mark Diffley, Colm McLoughlin, Cillian McGloin, Kieran Clancy, Arek Oberwan, Evan Harkin, Cathal McHugh, Jack Rowley, Sean Harkin, Jamie Rynn, Paddy Keane, Eoin McLoughlin, Donal Feeley, Jack Gilheany*

Midfielders
Barry McNulty, Paul Keaney, Radek Oberwan , Conor Quinn, Keith Keegan, Liam Chandler, Jack Flynn, Ryan Donoghue*

Attackers:
Ben Guckian, Tom Prior, Ryan O'Rourke, Paul Honeyman, Darren Cox, Oisin McLoughlin, Jordan Reynolds, Jack Kelly, Michael McKiernan, Riordan O'Rourke, David Feeney, Caleb Duffy, Tom Plunkett, Stephen McLoughlin, Darragh Rooney*, Conall Jones*, Jack Heslin*"
Dermot McCabe in with Cavan and a club man (not Ballinamore) and former manager in Gowna. Of all times to make the switch, this year would be an unusual choice. I never understood that he would drive through 5/6 parishes to get to Gowna irrespective of the fact his father played there but in saying that, thats what he's done his whole life. He's never played for Leitrim and has a decent shout of starting for a Cavan team yoyoing between Div 1 and Div 2 so I would be surprised of Donohoe ever makes the switch

Replying To anklesockhater:  "ridiculous comment. lots of talk on this group about improving standards, hardly a good look to be going round the neighbours looking for referees because they have their house in order as you put it.

the fact about north leitrim having only one active ref is actually correct im pretty certain, that would be vincent mcmorrow. Foley has hung up the whistle and Eugene McHale is a Sligo clubman coming over the border. Its damning that some of the more populated and successful clubs clubs have no active referee, Mohill, Ballinamore, Leitrim Gaels, etc.

there was a similar push for new referees last year and two were recruited if Im not mistaken, one of whom reffed the junior final this year. The age profile of current referees is the big issue in my opinion, some lads have given years to it and father time is just catching up with them."

Allen Gaels playing Strokestown this weekend, yere all very quiet about this game. Have the Gaels any chance against a very much fancied Roscommon team.

Allen Gaels are undoubtedly one of the strongest intermediate championship-winning teams in Leitrim in recent years, and their results throughout the season speak for themselves. Hopefully they can put in a big performance this weekend and maybe even come away with a result. It would be a tremendous boost for Leitrim football to see them get a win in the Connacht Club Championship.

Exactly. I think this is the first time in a while I've been excited for an intermediate game in Connaught. A young and exciting Allen Gaels team coming against the senior champions of three years ago. To be honest I'm not expecting a win here for Allen Gaels but I would love to see them put up a fight against a well calibrated Strokestown team. This will Allen Gaels's first test this season and it will tell a lot about how they will fair out next year in the senior ranks. Strokestown by 4

Don't think Strokestown have been very convincing throughout the year although they have played in a far more competitive championship . I think it will be extremely close with Strokestown winning by 2/3 points home advantage being key not many Leitrim teams at any age grade win in The Hyde.

Doesn't say much for Roscommon football that a team winning their senior three years ago was dropped down to intermediate so quickly

Predictions for this weekend

Stroketown v Allen Gaels
Both teams won their intermediate championships with a minimum of fuss. Allen Gaels may have an edge in midfield, but will it be enough? Stroketown has an excellent defence. I wouldn't be surprised if it went to overtime.
Allen Gaels by 1

Aughavas v Carna
Carna is Galway's representative after they lost to a Claregalway B team in the final. I think this is the best chance of a Leitrim victory this weekend.
Aughavas by 3

Moycullen v Leitrim Gaels
With so many players unavailable, this could be a harsh day out for Leitrim Gaels.

They had a strong 12 point win, like last year they will definitely be there or there abouts to go on and win it

They have a very good set of forwards for that grade, pace and power and goal threat with Jamie Plunkett and Jack Prior, height and physicality with Jack Moolick and Frankie Mc and long range ability with Joey McBrien and Daire McCabe, and a good keeper in Scott Kerr if he's in goals, sometimes he's out the field.

They'll be in the mix. They have the Sligo Combined team and St Gerald's in the group, if they top it they will fancy themselves.

Anyone at the Allen Gaels match? Looks like they were well in it coming into the last 10 minutes but Strokestown pulled away then. A familiar failing of Leitrim teams unfortunately. Hopefully Allen Gaels compete strongly at Senior next year, they certainly are capable of. Best of luck to Aughavas and Leitrim Gaels tomorrow, both are up against it but hoping for competitive performances at least.

It says all about the strength and competitiveness of Roscommon club football. Strokestown 6 point winners against Allen Gaels today who in Leitrim was scoring 28 points a game and conceded 11 per game didn't get close to those averages today asthey faced a step up in quality.
