The Limerick 5 In A Row, Will They Do It?

OK my mistake winning one in 70 odd years. How are you going to try and spin that? Bring up how many Munster semi-finals they were in?

Also why is someone from Wexford so worried about Limerick?

Why is someone who is as anti Limerick as you posting on the thread? On account of some good friends up there, and spending around 6-8 weekends, or at least Saturday nights, a year up around there for the last 25-30 years they are the team I've followed in the Munster Championship since the early/mid 90s. No Limerick people I know claim to be any part of a big 3 or big 4. Theres no arrogance or patronising ##### out of them. Well really it's a big 2 the last 50 odd years, Kilkenny and Cork, as after the year I was born Limerick have won the same number of AIs as Tipp.

It was only when Hannon went off and DM went out of the Full Position that Cork came back into it. They were struggling big time before Hannon's injury and though Limerick scored three goals it could easily have been six. I have yet to be convinced about Cork, Clare are the real deal."
Lynch played in 3 of the four matches. Finn played one and a half. Ye were two points up when Hannon went off and actually went 7 up after that before Cork came back.
The margins are not massive at all. A few injuries or discipline issues and things can change quickly.
As i said i wouldn't be confident in any team beating ye but i think it will be close again.

I'd consider Limerick as an example of what can be achieved to be honest.

In my lifetime we've been very similar bar the last few years.

They've come from doing absolutely nothing in the 00s to the dominant force in hurling.

Sure they've good resources but have to use them well which they've certainly done.

If Limerick can do it why not us?

I agree with you re Cork. However, I feel something brewing this year, and believe we'll have a good campaign. You must remember that we were missing Coleman, Connolly and O'Flynn for all of last season, so having them back is a massive plus. We have both yourselves and Clare at home this year, and I for one, cannot wait!

I agree totally about the 3 lads missing last year. They could be the difference this year. And I think Brian Hayes will be top class too. In my opinion it's Limerick Cork and Clare to come out of Munster but it's hard to call who will be in the Munster Final. No disrespect to Tipp or Waterford by the way

I can assure you I or any of my friends boast about how many All Ireland's Kilkenny have.

Lynch was well of the pace early in the year and was only brought in in the last few minutes against Cork and did not play at all in the Munster Final. He was certainly not fully fit until the Galway game and he played a massive role in the Final, especially when he switched to Center Forward.

Well when you consider that Galway a county with a huge Hurling Population, about twice that of LK or WX, spent 11 years in the Championship there and never even reached one final maybe it is an achievement.

Explain how anything I said is anti Limerick?

No arrogance? Are you actually being serious? Do you not remember 2013 when they thought they just had to show up for the All-Ireland semi final?

Perhaps a cup of Barry's tea or a pint of Murphy's! Nothing else brewing down in the Deep South!

Agree that Cork won't be far away this year. The biggest threat to Limerick imo.

In fairness I'd know quite alot of Kilkenny people through bikes, work, kids schools, and just living not far from New Ross. You aren't inclined to brag and boast like some Cork and Tipp friends I have! And when you think Tipp have only won 6 AIs since the year I was born, which is currently the same as Limericks total, and Cork haven't won one at all in nearly 20 years, it says alot for you lads.

"On paper yes. But to say Limerick have been winning All-Irelands for a long time isn't true."
But is true. Since they won their 1st in 1897. Every other AI winning county outside the big 3, or big 2 plus Tipp, have had, or are currently having in the case of Waterford, Dublin and also Kerry and Laois, longer AI droughts than Limerick ever had.

Any of the lads I know in Limerick had Clare pegged as dark horses. They had won 2 of the previous 4 AI U21 championships by the time of the AISF, and had reached another u21 AISF having won Munster again. Waterford had a good team that time and Clare beat them well also. They did think they were slight favourites, but many were worried about the long gap, 5 weeks, since the Munster final also. None thought they just had to turn up.

This thread, in case you have forgotten, is about the 5 in a row, not LimericK winning Munster championships or a Limerick club winning an All Ireland in 1897 or the belittling of other counties.

Like I posted already, in the 1st 5 or so posts on the thread, they are going to win the 5 in a row. I've been drawn into posting more stuff about history because there have been posts posted that just aren't right. I don't think they are going to win because they won their 1st in 1897. I think they are going to win because their 3 main challengers, including yourselves, aren't as good at modern hurling and have weaknesses they will exploit.
