One thing I don't understand is why Meath had to wait until the last game of the League and the last game of the Championship to produce this kind of performance? And worse again, neither resulted in wins. Moral victories at best. Loyal2TheRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 4522 - 17/07/2011 11:48:08 986753 Link 0 |
Killdare were there for the taking last night but our forwards went missing as usual when it came to the crunch and bolton was giving the freedom of the park, some people here on the forum are happy with the display but i think if meath were any good we would have gave killdare a good beating in navan last night but meath have a long way to go, and a few players have to go, so much for our much vaunted forward line. tailteannpark (Meath) - Posts: 174 - 17/07/2011 12:03:58 986768 Link 0 |
Very good and honest points Loyal but all I will say is that it is a start. If we had of been beaten off the park then maybe we could be calling for Bantys head but there was massive passion and effort from the players and that is the starting point we want from the Meath Senior Footballers. There was some pivotal moments that could have swung it for us. When the game was levelled in the 2nd half, Biggy Reilly had a glorious chance to give us the lead when the crowd was in full voice but shot wide. Cian Ward does the same from a 45 and Shane O'Rourke completely mishit another. These go over and it would have been interesting to see Kildares response if we did go in front then. I hate this hard luck meath rubbish. We,re going nowhere fast. I honestly hope the meath county board and clubs have the cop on to leave the magement team in place. If we keep changing all the time we,re going round in circles. In fairness to banty he has improved the defence and the support play. Our backs support play is very very good. I think Shane o,rourke is starting to show his worth and in kevin reilly we have a full back that would grace any meath team. Leninhan is deffienty one to watch as is menton and paddy gillsean. Mark o,sullivian is a fantastic playmaker and will help out the fowards. But we are nowhere near wining an all-ireland and for meath that aint good enough. Instead of a knee jerck reaction of get banty out, i hope Barney allen and cycil creavin sit down and look at the structres of our club championships. A team can win a senior with losing 3 games, that does,nt instill a never say die and never give in attitude in players. Also our under age structres are a tottal farce. Gerry McEntee laid out the changes that needed to be made as did Colom O,rourke, but nothing has ever been done. Untill we start from the bottom up in meath football its allways going to be a hard luck story and thats not good enough for meat football. A good forward line, or any unit of the team has to be together for a spell. Stafford,O Rourke and Flynn just did not click overnight. I am sure if Banty stays in charge he would never again play Paddy O Rourke in the forwards. Indeed had Meath advanced last night one or two of the forwards would have been under pressure to hold onto their places. Reason--they were not working as a team but instead going for individual glory. Will be shot for saying this but our biggest loss last night was Graham Geraghty. We have still no attack leader. Some one like an O Rourke, Giles or a Dowd. Geraghty did it in 1999. They led the line, held the ball up and brought others into play. Tottally agree with you auldfella. Gearthy was a leader as was stafford. If i was asked to pick a meath captain id give it to kenny or reilly. two backs. Paddy gillsean is our only foward that lays it off, sometimes to often. The fact that banty had to go back for a 38 year old should bring shame on the county board and minor board. We aint producing the players and for a county of our size that is shamefull. Kellsfig (Meath) - Posts: 41 - 17/07/2011 12:38:55 986806 Link 0 |
Hard luck lads. If and when we go down I hope we go down fighting and with the dignity Meath did last night. derfil1 (Kildare) - Posts: 1612 - 17/07/2011 12:41:28 986811 Link 0 |
cant remember the last time Joe played well against a good team. SS6 (Meath) - Posts: 149 - 17/07/2011 13:00:58 986827 Link 0 |
That was the worst Kildare have played all season, and it was the best Meath have played all season. So what does that say? Meath are a very very poor team, imagine Kildare played anyway like they did last Saturday against Laois. celbo_boy (Kildare) - Posts: 128 - 17/07/2011 13:15:45 986843 Link 0 |
As much as I love Joe he seriously needs to be reined in. Coylers Elbow (Meath) - Posts: 1075 - 17/07/2011 13:18:51 986851 Link 0 |

To the genuine Meath fans have to say Unlucky lads I thought yee had us on the ropes at times and was biting my nails the whole second half until Kildare began to surge....The likes of Ward looking very dangerous on the ball, had Andy Mac turned inside out at times, although I felt Kildare were not at thier best and it looked obvious our makeshift midfield without Lynch and Early, struggled to get into the game, hopefully something which will improve. Absolutely gutted today but well done to Kildare all the same, better team won without a doubt but I don't think there was much in it, scant consolation for us of course but no complaints. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 17/07/2011 15:07:56 986960 Link 0 |

htaem your right. The meath fowards are tottally over-rated. I tottally agree with you about many barren years to come, this year only one meath player, mickey newman, played in the final of the sigerson weekend. that kind of sums up the problems in meath football. For footballing reasons i think all neutrals would love to see Kildare go all the way, and John Doyle picking up an All Ireland medal, what a player and a true gent. weeirish (Louth) - Posts: 24 - 17/07/2011 15:56:37 987020 Link 0 |
