I think it was a given that he was going to retire due to the hip. As much as i feel mod is not the man for the Meath job any longer i don't think anyone can blame these two retirements on him.

Kevin Reilly will be a loss to the team at 29 he does have a lot off injuries... Best wishes Kevin.... Hopefully you will get involved in another way with the team

Looks like Menton and O'Sullivan will be next to leave the sinking ship... I mean camp. Hope we don't draw Westmeath tonight.

Athboygael, I hope that we DO draw Westmeath tonight. Nothing like memories of this years semi to focus the mind.

I am not sure where you got O'Sullivan from, which one, is it Mark?

You never know, these retirements, defections etc might just result in a panel with more focus. We do need some slightly older players in the 26 - 30 age range and some players with a bit of bite. The management team will possibly be better with McCabe & Murphy and hopefully a strength and conditioning coach will improve things.

Which O'Sullivan would that be Athboygael? Cillian who has been injured for most of the past two years injured and therefore not on the panel, or Mark who has been a bit part player when he hasn't been injured as well?

I am not a fan of the current management, but this witch-hunt is getting ridiculous.

I love how some posters make remarks and then never explain what they truly mean.

I meant Mark O' Sullivan - sorry for my lack of clarity. Witch hunt?, I was just telling you who's next to leave.

Bray retirement is too massive to even try put into words, a class act that'll be missed so badly it will be glaringly obvious unfortunately, and that last line is dedicated too all the Muppets on here that were calling for him to be dropped. Kevin Reilly is less of a loss cause I can't remember the last time he played too many consecutive games. Menton has been a bit of a dissapointment tbh, loads of potential but only seems to do well when tracking someone, he's a good league player but come championship he tends to be fairly anonymous

Watch the Westmeath game in the last 10mins,the only player showing any leadership is Menton,a huge loss as he was a player getting better and better. One of the few players we have who is big with a mobility..

Agree with Ziggy. Menton was one of our better players this year. I stand to be corrected but I think only G Reilly scored more from play than Menton over the year and Menton played most of his football at wing back. He is a huge loss for 2016.

Kevin Reilly would not have got any successful team as he was always injured or when under pressure would go off injured.
For me he has been a huge dissappointment as he had the physical attributes to make it.

His statement was cringe worthy . Top Meath players just walk away quietly.

The current game is not physical compared to the 80s & 90s plus Leinster was a far more competitive arena back then.. seriuosly someone name a few top teams he has played against where he was outstanding. Dublin 5 goal game, did he play? After that I'm struggling, we have never seen him mark a top class forward and come out on top, please someone correct me..

All this talk of hard man, leader etc is nonsense.. We would be better served to understand why a man so big in a current game that's not phyiscal got so many injuries and prevent this from happening again.

If he was fit and consistently able to play then yes, play him full back, but I cant think of period where he played and finished 2-3 games.

Jesus above NMM, who p155ed in your cornflakes..
FFS Kevin was as good a player as we've had since 2001. He was ruined by injuries from a very early age. I'm not going to dignify your rant with a response but c'mon a bit of perspective.

NMM, an absolutely laughable post. Either you are a WUM or ill-informed, or both. Just to pick apart what you said...

as he had the physical attributes to make it. >> define 'make it'? Play for and captain Meath?

The current game is not physical compared to the 80s & 90s plus Leinster was a far more competitive arena back then >> it may not be as physical, but what has that got to do with anything? You didn't see lads retiring at 29 with knackered hips 20 years ago. The demands on players now are far more than in 80s/90s.

Dublin 5 goal game, did he play? After that I'm struggling >> You're not struggling, you just don't know/couldn't be bothered to look. Yes, he did. In fact, he played & finished games that year against Laois, Dublin, Louth & Kildare, missing only the Leinster opener v Offaly. In 2011 he started and finished 3 out of the 4 games we played in Championship. I'm not going through all the years or looking at league games, just proving what nonsense you are talking.

If he was fit and consistently able to play then yes, play him full back, but I cant think of period where he played and finished 2-3 games >> as above

As for criticising his statement, you'd probably be accusing him of throwing in the towel and quitting if he hadn't laid out his reasons. It would appear that he shouldn't have been next to or near a football pitch for the last couple of years, yet put himself through hell to play, to the point that he could barely walk afterwards. Have you ever put in that kind of effort in any aspect of your life NMM? I would doubt it. But you happily come on here having a cheap shot at someone who gave his all for longer than his body would alloW. Your comments are clearly borne out of ignorance, as you obviously have no idea what you are talking about in terms of the facts.

PS, if you are a WUM, then job done.

Why is my post laughable, spiteful etc and what is WUM, please come back with facts.

NOM's have won 2 senior champions in last few years and he didn't play for them either and then make a retirement statement week before co final.
As Sean Boylan said last year if you are not fit then forget about them and he's no loss due to not being match fit for years now for club and county.

The worrying thing is the high esteem he is held in by the kids who post on this site. Talking to real Meath people who understand Meath GAA and you will get a different story. Putting out the list of injuries was embarrassing. Cant think of any player from Meath or any other county coming out with such statement.

It tells me why Meath have fallen out of the top 8-10 teams in Ireland
