Kevin Reilly retires...

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Correct decision from him,he has terrible terrible injuries. Its disappointing because he is only 29,but imo he had no choice. It does leave Meath lacking a lot of experience,we have lost he and Bray and Menton for the year.
Great servant and top full back on his day..

Kevin Reilly

The day I didn't want to come has arrived, retired at 29 but given the list of injuries listed in his announcement it's actually a wonder he lasted as long as he did. Best wishes to Kevin as he departs the scene his loss will be felt by all the squad and hopefully we will see him involved in some capacity again, many thanks for your service and dedication through so much injury Kevin.

One of the few truly top-class performers we've had since the All-Ireland final team of 2001 broke up. It's obvious from reading his statement how much it meant to him to pull on the Meath jersey & the lengths he went to to try to get himself right.

The keyboard warriors who regularly lambast players should bear this kind of effort in mind before letting loose on the forum in future (wishful thinking I know).

Best of luck Kevin, you'll be missed.

Imo we have lost two players who would have been good enough to play for any Meath All-Ireland winning team for the coming season. Our oldest player will be 26? That would worry me..But as I said, for his own sake Kev made the right decision, the lad will suffer in future years..

Thanks for all the devotion and effort Kevin Reilly, a truly excellent fullback for Meath and a big loss to us, his boots are going to be very hard to fill, not only because of his obvious talent but his leadership qualities as well. Sadly I think a lot of us knew his days were numbered because of Kevin's horrible time with injuries, which probably has robbed him of his best years in a Meath jersey (which clearly meant a hell of a lot to him) but I really think he's made the right decision and in a way I'm happy he's done best by himself rather than risking further injuries, so all the best in retirement to Kevin Reilly and thanks again.

Another player at a standard we can't afford to lose.

In all fairness he has effectively been gone for last few years. So the loss is not going to be near as big as Stephen Bray

Or Bryan Menton..

Mento is only 25 and one of the very few players we have who is big and mobile..

Best wishes kev, truly a outstanding player, but no one can argue it was the right decision for him. Thanks for the memories, hero

Sad to see a man of his undoubted talent having to call it a day at 29, has been suffering from bad injuries for last few years. One of the few top performers over the last ten years. Best of luck in the future

A great example of what a captain should be and a fine footballer as well. It is sad to see Kevin go. They are all dropping like flies now with the retirements whose next!

Sign of the times really a player retiring at 29 albeit through injury. Great footballer full back seemed his natural position. He never really got in 4th of 5th gear due to injuries. I guess my main memory of Kevin in 2012 playing Dublin and he got injured near half time and then Dublin got 2 quick goals and the game was over for Meath.

Enjoy your retirement Kevin. Brilliant full back, always gave 100%. Knew he was injury prone but didn't know the extent, scary stuff. Hopefully no long term health affects.

Great player who probably did not fulfil his potential because of injuries.
We defiantly did not see him play as much as we should.
Sorry to see him retire as a natural leader I would love to see him involved in the county set up at some level.

Mick O Dowd is building for the future. I often wonder did hearing that sicken Stephen Bray and Kevin Reilly.

Atta, I would say what sickened Reilly was the fact that his hip is in rag order & he'll need a replacement before he's 40. Just a hunch. But sure get your little MOD dig in anyway...

FFS will some of ye get a life around here, why insult Kevin & Stephen and their dedication by even mentioning something like that

Since when does building for the future exclude experienced players?

Agree with Rich, its obvious why they retired, should they explain in simpler terms for some people?
