Good wins for curragha and bective last night looks like these have the best chance of winning the junior if a 1st team is to win it

With 3 games played in all the groups. Who looks impressive and who has caused some upsets

Dunsany getting two wins so far is a surprise. I would have thought Meath hill would be them.

When was the last 2nd team to win it? Simonstown won it in 1990 but was it there 1st or 2nd team. Dunboyne won it around the same time so it's 25 years since a 2nd team won it and 41 years since o Mahonys won it

1992 gael colmcille but was that a second team? 3 second teams in 4 years if so, but with the strength of o mahonys, dunboyne there needs to be something done, suggestion and i know some of the teams wouldnt like this but put the second teams in the junior b down and have all second and third teams in the b,c and d championships a bit like the b leagues

I don't think its so much that second teams of senior clubs have got stronger but that first teams of junior clubs have got weaker. Emigration affects all clubs but it particularly affects smaller rural clubs. While the present structure is not ideal the strongest team generally wins the championship and would be best placed to compete at intermediate. I would imagine players on these second teams are as keen as anyone to win a championship.

Didn't Don/Ash win it a couple of years ago?

It's a while since a 2nd team won it don/ash went up as beaten finalists. To be honest the making of senior and intermediate to 18 team competitions has taken the stronger junior clubs up to intermediate and the standard of junior A is now lower. Once meath clubs won leinster junior almost every year but since that restructure meath clubs are seldom in shake up.

Omahonys and Simonstown this year look very strong but as Dunboyne last year they will do well to win it ... But it will take a very decent team to beat them.

Moynalty and meath hill a few years ago but forward motions to have junior only clubs in junior A and but 2nd teams in there own championship but convention did not support it and it was lost. Maybe it's time to try again....... as I am sure the weaker junior b clubs would rather play real junior clubs and not 2nd teams as both Juniour A and B now do

srgt_slaughter if you put second teams in Junior B some of the games would end being an absolute write off!

Dunboyne, O'Mahonys and simonstown have competitive second strings in Junior A and Don/Ash have been competing in the intermediate championship for about 3 years now. Ashbourne also have a third team already competing in the Junior B!

If any of those teams had to play Junior B they'd all be promoted one after another

That was Dunboyne's 1st team. They won it in 89. Simonstown's first team won it in 1990.
Kells 2nd team beat Ratoath in the final in 1992. Last time I remember a 2nd team winning it.

Uncle_fester I didn't mean have them promoted leave them junior b no promotion I know it's not the fault of O'Mahonys Ashbourne and simonstown for having strong second teams but something has to b done

No, there won't be any Junior A this month - just Junior B and down. According to the Fixture Planner, there won't be any until August

Wolfe Tones v Boardsmill .... Hard to say maybe Boardsmill
Kilmainhamwood v Bective ... I has to be Bective
Moylagh v Curraha... Red hot Curraha to win pulling up

St. Peters Dunboyne v Clonard: Dunboyne to win easily here even though they've lost considerable players to their first team, most notably Robinson. Clonard are on a downwards spiral and with Flanagan out, relegation is slowly becoming a reality. Dunboyne by 8

Dunshaughlin v Carnaross Dunshaughlin's senior team's good form positively impacts on their junior side who disposed of Clonard in a dire encounter in the last round. Carnaross kept their hopes alive with a fortunate victory over the Drums and will hope to push on with a win here. Carnaross by 3

Drumconrath v Simonstown: Drumconrath will be desperate for victory in the knowledge that their slims hope of keeping their season alive is on the line. Terry Skelly's return will aid their cause. Simonstown have been impressive in quietly going about their business perched on top of this group with 3 wins. I fancy the Drums to upset the odds. Drums by 1

O'Mahonys v Summerhill: If the Brews Hill club keep hold of their current squad, it's difficult to see any team stopping them from winning it outright. O Mahonys by 6

Meath Hill v Skryne Meath Hill will hope to continue their excellent league form and get their championship back on track. Earlier losses to Dunsany and O Mahonys will mean that 3rd place in the group is their aim. They will quietly fancy themselves of going far this year but they may be forced to do it the hard way. Turley is a big addition. They will overcome an average Skryne team here by 4.

Wolfe Tones v Boardsmill. Crucial game for both teams with a win giving them a chance of 3rd place and a loss pitting them against Moylagh for relegation. Boardsmill to win by 2

Kilmainhamwood v Bective: Bective received a reality check against Curraha in the cup final but this will give them greater motivation to push on. This team under the tutelage of Jody Devine will be in the shake up at the end of the year. K'Wood are an improved outfit this year and will always make it difficult for any opposition. The tight pitch in Kilberry will suit the hardy bucks of the Wood but Bective's superior fitness will see them through this stern test.
Bective by 4

Moylagh v Curraha: Curraha to win by 10 points, no explanation needed.

Brigids vs Dunsany: Very disappointing campaign for St Brigids with no chance of qualification. Dunsany will cement their second place and their credentials here with a facile victory. Dunsany by 6

Predictions are a bit harder this time around after the 2 and a half month break - clubs could be in very different shape than they were 2 months ago!

JFC
St. Peters Dunboyne v Clonard.. Dunboyne to win by 4 maybe. Losing Flanagan will condemn Clonard to a relegation play-off just a year after making semis. They will be fine though, relegated team is coming from Group C I think

Dunshaughlin v Carnaross... Carnaross to seal qualification here with a 6 or 7 point win

Drumconrath v Simonstown... Can't see there being much in this. Going to go for a Simonstown win by a point

O'Mahonys v Summerhill.. OMahonys by 8 points to top the table and leave Summerhill needing to beat Dunsany in last round

Meath Hill v Skryne ... Meath Hill will comfortably win this. Impressive results lately, they could be peaking at the right time

St. Brigids v Dunsany - Dunsany to win by 3 points to make the quarters and condemn Brigids to a relegation play-off

Wolfe Tones v Boardsmill .... Will be a close one, winner gives themselves an outside chance of qualification while the loser is in a relegation dog fight. The first team might have a bit more training done, Boardsmill by 2

Kilmainhamwood v Bective ... Bective but not by much. 4 or 5 points in it at the end I think

Moylagh v Curraha... Curragha by 10

St Brigids v Dunsany... Brigids will battle like hell for a win but it may be beyond them

JFC
St. Peters Dunboyne v Clonard.. No Flanagan and Clonard will be fighting relegation.

Dunshaughlin v Carnaross... Dunshaughlin to upset the group and I would say make the 1/4s

Drumconrath v Simonstown... Simonstown all day

O'Mahonys v Summerhill.. OMahonys. Top team in the championship

Meath Hill v Skryne ... Meath Hill just about

St. Brigids v Dunsany - St brigids to upset a young Dunsany team who have been lucky so far.

Wolfe Tones v Boardsmill .... Boardsmill just about in a poor game

Kilmainhamwood v Bective ... Kwood will love this in a small pitch. Bective took a huge blow in the Cup final. Kwood win

Moylagh v Curraha... Curragha

With the last group game of the Junior championship looming, the group standings are beginning to take shape.

Group A:
Simonstown guaranteed top spot
Dunboyne and Carnaross play for second spot in last round

Group B:
O Mahonys should top the group by beating Skryne
Meath Hill, Summerhill and Dunsany fight for the last 2 places. If Dunsany win tonight, I'd expect them to finish second with Meath Hill sneaking through

Group C: Bective guaranteed top spot.
Curraha second
3rd place still up for grabs but Kwood have the most manageable final fixture against Moylagh

A: Simonstown, Carnaross, Dunboyne
B: O Mahonys, Dunsany, Meath Hill
C: Bective, Curraha, Kwood

Quarters for arguments sake:

Prelim: Meath Hill vs Kwood(B3 vs C3)
1: Simonstown vs Meath Hill/Kwood (A1 vs B3/C3)
2.O Mahonys vs Curraha (B1 vs C2)
3. Bective vs Dunboyne (C1 vs A3)
4. Carnaross vs Dunsany (A2 vs B2)
