The real Árd Rí - I happen to disagree with your point on tradition! There were hicupps on the way but O'Mahonys competed in the first ALL-Ireland with some team from Tipperary during a period when county champions compete for All-Ireland (I think the celebrated that ocassion by competing with A...Rovers in croke Park in the early 90's. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 29/08/2008 01:16:15 88040 Link 0 |

And your wrong also Ard Ri.The O Mahonies existed under a different name but played in the same field. They were called De La Salle. They played since the twenties im sure. And would have collected snior titles in Hurling and football. James T (Meath) - Posts: 611 - 29/08/2008 10:38:43 88165 Link 0 |

A quarter of the population maybe but how many of those actually care about Navan O Mahonies. Not to mention the crew north of the river who take nearly half of that. There are far more soccer teams in and around Navan and most young men play that instead of Gaelic or Hurling. You compare us to Dublin because of our population but its ridiculous and nonsensical to assume that even half of these people play football.Ha ha if you compare Navan O Mahonies to Dublin , you must make who Kerry then , Wolfe Tones , skryne , Dunshaughlin? No in this stupdi comparrissons game we would be Kerry as we have the most championships.Ha ha if Peter McDermot heard you call us Dublin he would be turning in his grave. The real Ard Ri - You are beginning to even surpass yourself !! For a start, St. Johns only existed for a short period in 70's and maybe early 80's and they were a combination team (two clubs combining) coming from the same areas as present good Tones team. Some people refer to the Keegan cup but this has only been in existance in the latter half of the last century! -are we to neglect the championships before then! Tradition is like history -it is what has gone before browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 29/08/2008 13:50:20 88467 Link 0 |

James You've just proved my point for me. They're deffo the Dubs of Meath football. Totally ungracious. Arguing points which have no argument to them. That's classic Dub. Now you would never here the Kerry boys behave like that. And another thing, who are the worst losers in Meath. NOM of course. Have you ever heard Kerry complain about loosing a final. I'm telling you and hard though it be to accept it, you simplyhave to in the end . Anyway they're yesterday's men with no chance of doing anything for a good few years yet. I think your wrong about this year Ard Ri.Im almost certain that O Mahonies are the only unbeaten team in all competitions in the county at all grades.Maybe ST Vincents in the junior B are too. James T (Meath) - Posts: 611 - 01/09/2008 09:15:18 89364 Link 0 |

Apologies i meant in senior unbeaten and no other team at any other grade.ie inter junior a etc.I agree with you Ard Ri that the heart and soul of Meath football particularly is in the more rural clubs.I never disputed that.I think that you exaggerate our pick. There are teams like Dunboyne , Donaghmore/Ashbourne and even Ratoath i believe with four adult teams and rapidly growing population.Thes places have a bigger pick and better facilities and do not have a rival senior club of similar size within their own townland. Also Ard Ri , you made a insinuated that most teams love to beat Navan because of a percieved attitude that is rumoured to be present among the players. This is simply not the case and they have repect for every team they go out to play.Even Rathkenny who they massacred the other day , The players and management acknowledged that Rathkenny had a couple of very good players that needed to be nullified and they executed the plan perfectly. The real Árd Rí - You are again surpassing youself! and you are again incorrect about the hearth of the GAA. The hearth of the GAA inside the county lies with all the 75 plus clubs inside the county and every club big or small is equally important. Incidently I do not call any senior single parish club a small club. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 01/09/2008 23:07:58 90252 Link 0 |
