Are they definitely in the semi final? It said nothing about it in the independent or the Hoganstand site, but the facebook page said they were. Selwyn (Meath) - Posts: 411 - 13/05/2013 10:58:45 1382863 Link 0 |

The coverage about the game vs Kildare is absolutely terrible. The footballers played a friendly yesterday evening and the report was up, with the team and scorers.. Hurling in this county never gets a chance!! A small bit of a report today with no team, scorers ect.. Time the two were treated equally.. Hopefully Meath win the Christy Ring and people start taking notice.. BigMan147 (Meath) - Posts: 23 - 13/05/2013 13:20:28 1382976 Link 0 |
Hopefully the hurlers can go the extra step.. They have an unfortunate tag of losing finals over the past 2-3 years. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 793 - 13/05/2013 20:27:56 1383384 Link 0 |
Best of luck to the lads tomorrow. Everyone should try and make Trim tomorrow afternoon and support them. They were incredibly unlucky in the semi final last year so hopefully they get the rub of the green tomorrow. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1385 - 24/05/2013 12:02:27 1390385 Link 0 |
Am I just after seeing that correctly? I think we're all well aware of the significance of what's on next week with regard to the football and sure that'll all be up in the air if the hurlers win this thing. It would ruin everything. God knows how long it will be before the footballers get a proper run out again. No wonder hurling doesn't get anywhere in this county with people being selfish like this and not having any consideration for the footballers. I didn't want to be the one to bring it up but I would be inclined to agree with postsplitter on this one. In the event of Meath winning tomorrow, numerous club championship games fixed for next week will be put on the long finger! I'm not sure do people realise the sacrifices that go into club football nowadays, to throw all fixtures and planning out on less than a weeks notice in some cases would be completely unfair on these club footballers! bigkick (Meath) - Posts: 19 - 24/05/2013 14:29:06 1390582 Link 0 |
The problems a win will cause regarding football fixtures etc. reflects the crazy (and derisory) scheduling for the CRC and the other lower ranked hurling competitions. 5 weeks to run the whole thing off, and then the hurlers have no games at IC level until next spring. How these competitions couldn't be scheduled to run so that the semi's and finals are played at the same time as provincial semi's and finals is completely beyond me. You could then put them on the same bill and get a decent crowd in, which I'm sure the lads would all appreciate. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 486 - 24/05/2013 14:45:08 1390607 Link 0 |
To those complaining that this is unfair on the club footballers....you do know Meath hurling people dont schedule these games in national competitions? The dates for all the CR games have been set in stone by Croke Park since last November or so, no point blaming meath hurling folk. Well we constantly have people on this message board pointing to a poor standard of club championship as a reason for our recent demise on the inter-county football scene. How will this standard improve if the county board continue to promote hurling in cases such as this which are ultimately to the detriment of football? bigkick (Meath) - Posts: 19 - 24/05/2013 17:53:56 1390785 Link 0 |

Football supporters should get behind the hurlers because it's are only realistic hope of winning silverware this year for the county. toon (Meath) - Posts: 247 - 24/05/2013 21:34:52 1390900 Link 0 |

Yeah, get behind the lads. In with a good shout for a piece of silverware. Great guts shown to get away with a draw. Up the Royals!! LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 465 - 26/05/2013 19:27:01 1391789 Link 0 |
Great game, well done to the lads for sticking with it. Cut out some silly mistakes and a CRC final is on the cards. Looking forward to the trip north, should be another good game. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 486 - 27/05/2013 12:07:57 1392325 Link 0 |
I see the replay is in Ballycran instead of Newry. Bit of a nasty move by Down on the face of it. Newry would be less than an hour away from Navan but Ballycran GAA grounds are over 2 hours away via Belfast. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1385 - 27/05/2013 20:26:16 1393030 Link 0 |
They played Kerry in Newry earlier this month in the CR, the move is for nothing more than to disadvantage Meath and to make it much easier for the Down team and support. They know Meath people are a lot less likely to travel to Ballycran than Newry, and the journey will take even more out of the Meath team.
