Wow, some match alright Seasider Blues. I knew it was gonna be tight. There's not much between these 2 teams.

In all honesty a draw was the right result, but Colmcilles could feel they could have won in the end. Georgie Poyntin (think thats how he spells his name) had a glorious chance of poyntin (bad pun but couldn't resist) in the last minute from 14 yards out. 99 out of 100 times I'm sure he would have nailed it ,but he scuffed his shot narrowly wide.

Summerhill started the stronger leading 1.2 to 0.1 after 10 mins or so. Cathal Ryan was running amuck at this stage. Cilles made a few changes at the back and shored things up pretty quickly. Cilles then raced into the lead after a great Georgie Poyntin goal and looked likely to take their lead into the break. Summerhill then got a scrappy goal from Cathal Brien just before ref blew up which gave them a 2pt advantage.

Second half was nip and tuck all the way. Lots of great play and lots of tired mistakes. Notably Hill's shooting dropping short into Cilles keepers hands. They were guilty of a half dozen or so poor strikes. Up the other end Cilles were trying to walk the ball into the net. It paid off though when their no.10 got lucky with badly chipped shot for a point got parried into the top corner. Keeper no chance.

With about 10 mins to go I thought Summerhill had it. Cathal Ryan and Iarla Hughes had scored two massive points, the latter being an incredible long range effort. But credit to Cilles resolve they owned the rest of the game. Georgie scored a great point with his left peg. And then James Conlon worked his way into converting another at close range.

As I said the winning of the game fell to Poyntin but he was dead on his feet at this stage and his strike was that of one of a tired kid. Seemingly this lad played a full soccer internatinal for Ireland u16's earlier on in the day which explains his fatigue. I hope he keeps with the GAA as I have no doubt he could be Cilles next Biggy.

The most intriguing thing about the match was the midfield battle. Where Summerhill dominated in league they fell short here. Cilles played one of their strongest players, Darragh Brodigan, as a third midfielder. He got his hands on a lot of ball and used it really well. Summerhill never got to grips with this ploy I felt. Although the Ryan twins had a great battle with their Cilles counterparts, Cilles definitely had the edge with the extra man.

Another interesting match up was Iarla Hughes on James Conlon. You'd image that Hughes would've had the experience and strenght to deal with diminutive Conlon, but he gave him a torrid time for 60 mins. Hughes resorted to persisting fouling and on another day could have got the line.

Summerhill lost young Conor Frayne (a fantastic prospect) through injury early in the second half. If he had have stayed on the pitch he could have been their match winner.

Glad extra time was not played as these 30+ guys gave a fantastic exhibition of football. Tiredness crept in all round with cramp hitting both teams near the final whistle. It would have been a travesty if someone lost this game in extra time due to a tired mistake.

Roll on the replay. There were whispers of it scheduled for next Tue night. No venue was mentioned.

Great result Gilsey. Though I suspect Skyrne will be the team to beat at this level next year. Who starred for Jenkinstown ?

I attended the St.VincentsCurhaha Jenkinstown match last night, it was a great match. Curraha were the better team for most stages and they have top players at their disposal such as Andy McEntee, O'Connor, and their two Meath midfielders, they have great forwards also. Jenkinstown did show a great performance last night, their backs were very tight and that went along way in them winning the contest, I was impressed with no.3, Hugh smyth, James Kelly, Sean Duggan and Robert Lawless. Would not suprise me if both these side were knocking on the door for a minor Division.1 championship in 2 years time.
