Our best years for finances tend to come from county final replays, so i reckon the answer is to have some seriously horrificaly bad refereeing to engineer draws in the senior hurling and football finals. Some cynics may see through it and not attend, but the money will still be made. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1695 - 18/05/2013 16:05:09 1386226 Link 0 |
CastleBravo -Its not facilities that attract a crowd at a football match-its the teams playing and standards of football that attract crowds along with keeping the price of admission reasonable. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 18/05/2013 17:41:04 1386275 Link 0 |
Was talking more about improving P.T. so that Navan might be chosen as a neutral venue for big qualifiers, U21 games, league finals etc. A good Meath team will only really attract fans to Navan for league games as most championship games arent at home, and Meaths league games will be played in Navan until P.T. collapses into a pile of rubble. brown cows, im not talking about the car park or where the Aras is situated ,more at the back of the mound between the ambulance Hq and toward the mortuary ,there is quite a lot of "road frontage " there that could be developed .its dead space as is. royalpainter (Meath) - Posts: 874 - 18/05/2013 19:10:26 1386324 Link 0 |

9 mil for a training centre - unless you have an agreement with Croker for funds for your county ground, you should go ape shit& MR (Louth) - Posts: 2570 - 07/06/2013 21:43:10 1401584 Link 0 |

Checked online there. Meath co board have planning permission only last July for concrete terracing behind the goals. New toilets along the terraces. Along with an all inclusive stand the stretches from the curved concrete terrace down the whole touch line. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 805 - 08/06/2013 16:59:59 1401867 Link 0 |

Agree with you 100% MR. County grounds crumbling all around the country and they are spending 9m on a training centre? Who is that aimed at? The counties are still going to do 95% of their training on their own pitches. Many counties have spent a lot of money building their own training facilities (or half-building in our case). anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 09/06/2013 11:58:06 1402160 Link 0 |
As i posted on the louth page re. County grounds.. 4.5 mil would have upgraded our stand and allowed drogheda put in terracing and a small stand Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 805 - 09/06/2013 15:38:07 1402254 Link 0 |
I noted with interest yesterday that the grass banks were allowed to be used in Drogheda at the Wexford v Louth match, makes me wonder what the Health & Safety people saw in the grass banks in Drogheda that they didn't in Navan, they were very quick and insistent that ours shut down Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3757 - 10/06/2013 09:42:19 1402694 Link 0 |

In relation to the use of grass banks, Colm O'Rourke alluded to the H+S people allowing a concert in Slane alcohol etc. on sale, and yet they have a problem with a grass bank at PT and other places around the country. While the stand and other facilities in PT are a disgrace, I've been on the grass at the hospital end (many times) of PT when it's packed with no problems. Don't believe GAA people have changed so much in recent times to make it more of a health hazard than the "grass bank" at Slane. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 486 - 10/06/2013 11:41:56 1402848 Link 0 |
Good Point Moylough. It is natural for people to enjoy leisure time involving walking/standing on grass. No problem doing so at Golf Events, Cricket games, Point to Points & a wide etc. We should protest this nonsence. Or if it was merited why are crowds not excluded from Public parks in Cities. Our PT is been singled out for some reason. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 578 - 10/06/2013 12:18:09 1402903 Link 0 |
It was shocking to see people scattered across the banks in drogheda.. Gaa hypocracy again. They are content to say there is a health and safety issue with PT and then let people stand wherever in drogheda. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 805 - 10/06/2013 20:07:56 1403565 Link 0 |
