Three players worth a look at (Not on last years panel)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was Brendan Murphy asked back in? I know the arcticle on the main page suggests not but I vaguely remember someone saying something to the effect that he was part of the panel again. I know the players met up with Mick O'D and Colm Brady on Saturday morning and thought it was after that Id heard it but cant confirm.

does anyone know has david bray been called back? i think hes injury free now and it would be a good move to ask him back, he showed in 2009 that hes a very good player.

The boy Bryanie McMahon, well deserved! I'd have Conor McGill in slightly ahead of him though. I'd imagine by the time Meath's interest in the U21 ends he'll be in though. 2 serious grafters who won't fail from the lack of effort if anything.

Have been seriously impressed by Sean Tobin this year also, his inclusion is a no-brainer for me!

meathalltheway - None of the O'Mahony's players will be let near, or considered for the Meath panel as long as they are still involved in Leinster. I would imagine he will be drafted in though when that time comes. A few tough provincial games would do him the world of good now.

I don't think Paddy O'Rourke should be let walk back onto the panel and straight into goals ( a position he hasn't played in about a year and a half), it was a luxury afforded Gallagher last year that didn't really work. There should be 3/4 goalkeepers included in the panel with with one let go before the league. I'd like to see Burlingham, McHugh, Lyons & naybe Geraghty considered along with O'Rourke.

I'd also like Adam Flanagan introduced as a squad member. Coming from a Junior club the training and conditioning for the year would stand to him. We don't have an abundance of natural fielders in the county.

I think its very important to have lads in training for specialist jobs such as goalkeeping and contesting kickouts no matter how young they are. Whether they play no part in the championship this year I wouldn't care.

Who told you this? Peter?

Is any player on the Meath team really in a position to be giving the manager ultimatim's? Is Paddy O'Rourke that good that he can pick and choose where he plays for Meath? Doubt it

Paddy O Rourke should only be in the panel as a goalkeeper. Would not consider him for the panel as an outfield player. Okay at club level but in my opinion lacks the pace for county football.

Think he also lacks the football for (outfield) county football.

Id agree there.
He does a job at club level. In 2010 he was very effective for Skryne and would have had a reasonably high level of fitness from involvment with the county panel, his obvious height and weighed in with some good long range frees. But I think when the level is stepped up to strong intercounty opposition he would struggle. He caught a cuple of balls v Kildare last year big was snuffed out very quickly after that. the same thing happened v Louth although he did assist in one of Wards goals.

actually i have contact with patrick as i am from skryne actually i just happen to know him very well trough the club scene and he personally filled me in.. mick o dowd called him up to the panel and he said that he is only going if he can play as a forward or midfeild and not goals and wants a fair crack of the whip. you cannot begrude the man for that and i say best of luck to him

Whats this?? the tail wagging the dog?? he was tried and tested in 2011 out the field and it did not work out. Goals or nothing me thinks. Whats wrong with trying new players that have never been given a chance rather than going back to tried and tested.

Paddy O rourke has the ability to be an all-star Goalkeeper. He isnt ever going to be in contention for an outfield role. Opinions?

P o rourke is a good keeper but is not up to intercounty level as an outfield player

If O'Rourke doesn't want to play in goals thats fine. The last thing we want is someone in goals who doesn't want to be there, but was pushed into doing it by half the county.
