Three players worth a look at (Not on last years panel)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hold on a minute why are people giving out about players who never got the chance to show what they could do in a league match for example. We all know there are players that started matches this year that nearly wouldn't make the O'Mahonys team for example never mind being on the Meath panel. I'd say with Trevor having a good insight there could be a few big names dropped and there will hopefully be a chance for new players to come in. There are two many of the current panel that have been hanging around since Boylan left and when the chips are down in a game they are nowhere to be seen.

Like I explained in an earlier post I agree with you that he's one of best club half backs in the county, I admitted as much from the outset. He's had plenty of chances and it didn't transfer onto the county scene. I seem to remember him playing regularly under Eamon Barry. Under Coyle when we won Div2 in 07 he played the whole league including the final as an extra defender playing at wing forward. He started the championship V Kildare didn't play well, was substituted and was dropped for Graham Geraghty for the next game. That was his 3rd year on the panel and he had plenty of league time after. Contrast that with Sephen Sheppard who's never played a league game having been on the championship panel in 2007. Niall chose to quit the panel, so who do you think more hard done by of the 2?

By the way how could McLoughlin be the best club halfback over the last 3 years when he played 2011 and 10 at centre forward? I agree he's back to his best this year having been moved back there though. Managers pick what's in front of them on form. What you've seen on the pitch under successive managers has been the players performing best in various positions, picked on form and on availability.

Not really sure what some of ye are watching as some of the players mentioned are only at very best average club players. Talking about bringing minors on to the county panel is quite silly! If you are serious about young players go out and watch the u21 competition which is about to start and maybe a few new players can be found in that grade I have no doubt. The posts about McLoughlin- he has been an excellent club player and in my opinion would have done well at county level if he had been given the chance afforded to others (Reilly got roasted at corner back in an All-Ireland and ended gaining an All-Star as a forward-he was afforded the opportunity). Sometimes it is as difficult to get off a panel than it is to get on one and I know players who are on and off the county team who are indeed very average club players.

Players have to firstly make themselves available, and then put in the effort and sacrifice whereby then the management team (not the general public) select who plays and who sits on bench, no one on a bench should be happy but you have to prove yourself to the manager of the day and grasp your chance when it come, some of the players mentioned here for Meath squad don't even make an effort for their club until they get to a championship semi or final...

Is O'Sullivan not going to Australia for a year? If so that would rule him out for next year, but definitely one for the future.

3 players for 2013

Sean Curran (Don/Ash)
Cillian O Sullivan (Moynalvey)
Bryan McMahon (Ratoath)

I agree with a lot of posters re Niall McLaughlin of the Tones but no point in bringing in players in their late twenties.

i would recommend Harry Rooney, based on the fact that he made a noticeable difference when coming on in both Dublin games for the minors, Mark o Sullivan and his brother Cillian whenever he gets back from Australia.

I have been hearing many conflicting stories about whether or not C. O'Sullivan is gone down under, but surely the following quote from the Kiltale section of the hrling final programme settles it: "Kiltale also had players on last years All Ireland Minor B winning team such as.....Cillian O Sullivan who recently left for Australia"

Rumour has it Galligan is turning his attention towards athletics for the coming year. A loss for sure tho. Joe Linnane may also be heading away, a career in the AFL is said to be his dream, but hopefully he stays.

I dont know about that ziggy, plenty of players have gone from minor straight onto the senior teams down the years.players like liam hayes & brendan reilly spring to mind.i think a 19 year old should be well able for senior football
