Three players worth a look at (Not on last years panel)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It says in the chroncile today that O'Dowd is going to get 6/8 players at a time and test them against current panel members, and he said there will be new faces in the panel. Maybe he is going to try and drop a good few of the current panel. At least he knows we need to try something new in a few positions.

Eoghan Harrington was only back from injury this year and was very good. Previously he had been excellent had his place, lost form and lost his place. I totally disagree re King. No matter how he played he was gaurenteed not only a starting place but was never taken off. The one time he actually lost his place for a few Months, rather than put the head down and win it back he walked away. His choice.

I would consider Mattie McCabe, Brendan Reilly, Peadar Byrne, Jody Devine & Anthony Moyles more proven footballers but all served many years on the bench without walking.

While not a huge fan of Banty tactically I have to say he had a pair of his own. King was ultimately not playing well enough at the time to unseat Keoghan, Reilly, Tobin, Burke, Menton, Kenny, McAnarney, Harrington, O'Connor or Lenihan in the defensive pecking order. He's not the first to have a dip in form.

You know winter is coming when Cormac McGill gets mentioned again. Successive managers have ignored him. There has to be a good reason. Mark O'Sullivan has to be brought back in. Saw him a few times this year and he looked very impressive. Pulled a few sidesteps that had the whole crowd thrown off balance, not to mind the man trying to mark him....

McLoughlin had his chance and he's like several other players (Declan Lynch particularily comes to mind) who didn't for some reason show their club form in a county jersey. Corrigan had health issues at one stage and I believe it frightened some of the managers (Barry & Coyle) at that time and they just didn't give him an oportunity. I'd just wonder would he be mobile enough for county football?

bob if our present day players had the hunger & courage of brendan reilly we wouldnt be in the mess we are in. and dont forget who scored the winning point off his weak foot in 96

Slagging off Brendan Reilly. The amount of morons on this forum never fails to amaze me. Aside from '96, he was absolutely outstanding in '97 v Dublin & again in the Leinster Final - though this is forgotten because we lost. Would people stick to the topic at hand rather than running down someone who was an outstanding performer for his county.

Although a Dunshaughlin poster commenting re a Dunboyne player I don't think bobjaffacake was slagging off the Bull Reilly, but rather commenting on how we were missing Harnan and O'Reilly in All-Ireland finals might have cost us.

Reilly was indeed a brilliant footballer. Won an All-Star in 1997 and would have in '96 if todays criteria for nomination was used. Why should any poster have to come on here to ensure everyone knows that they respect a footballer? What was said was harmless, seriously sensitive people on here!

Thank for that rath togh, some people need to take a chill pill, someone said brendan reilly was on the bench in 1990 & 1991 and i said thats why they lost ,now how is that slaging the man?speaking as someone who played with and against brendan reilly he was one of the best to wear the meath jersey

This thread is about including 3 new panel members, nothing to do with Brendan Reilly.

you're dead right it is about 3 players who should be brought into the panel that might make the cut for championship. Definitely not about championing the cause of a 29 year old that had chances to impress under 4 different managers and didn't make it as being somehow 'shafted'. Thanks for pointing that out

I personally thank Niall McLoughlin is probobly one of the countys finest half backs at this minute. I also think he should have been on the meath team fo rthe last number of years and I think any game I seem him wearing the green and gold he did a super job and didnt deserve to be warming the benches. I think the majority of people would probobly agree with be Rath Togh.

What a memory...the winning point in '96...what a pair of balls he showed to kick that point. Unreal.

yeah for about 3 years now cormac mcgill has been mentioned. like if he hasnt made it onto the team then how will he now. there must be a reason why managers havnt been interested in him.
