Ah come on now,It would help if Meade actually knocked it down to a Meath player

If people want Meade excluded and Bray in, what about:

Gallagher
Keogan
Reilly
Menton
Tobin
McAnarney
Burke

Gillespie
Biggy

Forde
Carroll
Bray
Farrell
Joe
Ward

I would pick Walsh ahead of Meade, and if he is struggling I would bring Byrne on. Still not sure who I would pick between Bray and Ward,if Bray is able he should start, but probably a better impact sub than Ward is

My team would start

Gallagher
Keogan. Reilly. Harrington

Tobin. McAnarney. Burke

Menton
r
Reilly. Gillespie

Bray. Carroll

Ward. Farrell. Sheridan

Subs
Byrne
Forde
Meade
Lenihan
Gillsenan
Queeney

This the way I would operate around the middle . Leaving of Forde to give a little bit extra experience to a youthful area . I would see him , Byrne coming on and causing big problems to Dublin for the last half hour . Queenly to come on and kick his normal couple of points to put the icing on the cake

what harm is it starting ward ahead of bray? i think we have the best chance of winning if we can hang in there and then bring on byrne and bray as subs

What Meath can now do is, baring injuries, name a team where 12/13 names will be automatically put on the sheet without any controversy. This is something we haven't for some while and it showed in performances. I would make only two changes from the usual team which is to replace Burke and Warde with Harrington and Bray respectively. Now you could make a case for both of these lads starting as they have played some good football so far but with Bray and Harrington fit and playing well I can't see them being left off. So this is the team I would pick.

Gallagher
Keogan
Reilly
Menton
Tobin
McAnarney
Harrington
Gillespie
Meade
Reilly
Forde
Carroll
Bray
Joe
Farrell

Subs Probably introduced in this order

Byrne
Ward
Queeney
Burke
Lenihan
Gillsenan

I fear we will be relying heavily on Gillespie,so it's important that the likes of Tobin win ball around the middle, cause if Gillespie doesn't perform, well I don't expect Meade too

The real ard ri. Could not agree with leaving burke off the team. He was excellent against kildare and can run from deep. Just my opinion. Also will bray be in middle like ward?

Forde will tire, bringing on Gilsenan for him would be a very good replacement

Dublin team named.

1. Stephen Cluxton
2. Michael Fitzsimons
3. Rory O'Carroll
4. Philly McMahon
5. James McCarthy
6. Kevin Nolan
7. Cian O'Sullivan
8. Eamon Fennell
9. Denis Bastick
10. Paul Flynn
11. Alan Brogan
12. Bryan Cullen
13. Bernard Brogan
14. Michael Darragh Macauley
15. Kevin McManamon

Macauley will hardly play at 14, possibly a three man midfield?

They are doing that to counteract Graham Reilly at midfield. Thats where we could benifit because we can then release Bryan Menton out the field and he can be another midfielder for us. Dublin will play a two man full forward line of Bernard Brogan and Kevin McManoman with Paul Flynn and Alan Brogan supporting them. Those 4 players are Dublin's key players going forward and the following Meath players should mark them. Kevin Reilly should mark Bernard Brogan, Donal Keoghan should mark Kevin McManoman, Mickey Burke should mark Paul Flynn and finally Donnacha Tobin has a big job to mark Alan Brogan and Tobin can do it because he has the pace and strength to stick to him. Its obvious MD McCauley will be marking Graham Reilly, Fennell will mark Gillispie and Bastick will go out onto the wing to mark Brian Meade should he start. This makes Steven Bray and Peader Byrne's influence on the game even greater and we can out run dublin around the middle if Peader Byrne, Graham Reilly, Alan Forde, Damien Carroll and Steven Bray are all on the field at the one time. And they are obviously starting Cian O'Sullivan to mark Damien Carroll. COME ON THE ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE CAN DO IT....BELIEVE IS KEY!!!!!

No chance McCauley will stay in full forward. He will be brought out as a 3rd midfielder leaving Brogan and McMenimen as a 2 man full forward line. So what do Meath do then; tell Reilly to follow him, unlikely they would take him out of the full back line, leave Reilly and Menton in and put Keogan tracking McCauley or leave the 3 of them in the full back line marking 2 Dublin men? Wouldn't do that, Dublin are very strong running from the half back line through to the half forward line so leaving them with a spare man out there to pick up breaking ball and link up the play would be disastrous.

Very good assessment on the Dub/Meath match-ups Bigjoe14, I'd have the same. Positions won't count for a whole lot when Dublin go on the attack. I'd have Menton hang around the half back line to make it difficult for the Dublin runners to get through, that's if he is out around the middle marking Macauley.
Might be a bit much to expect Gilsenan to come back in after a long lay-off against the Dubs on Leinster final day, unless he is going very well in training or showed well against Down.
I see Mickey Burke did an interview this morning, must not be a blanket media ban so. Nice to see a quiet build up so far.

I have a different theory,MDM is a very strong runner through the centre, now what does Gilroy think? He thinks Shane Mc is a weak link at 6,the idea here is that MDM will power through the centre creating gaps for Brogan and co.Menton MUST play at 6 now..

Could be mind games lads, wouldn't surprise me to see O'Gara start in place of Fennell or McCauley and them to have a 3 man full forward line. If no changes then its obviously a 2 man full forward line for Dublin and rather than see the Dublin running game, McCauley would be there to stop Meath breaking quickly from midfield with Dublin playing quick ball direct in to Brogan and McMenimen. no point giving them two space if you are gonna run the ball from midfield.

MDMA runs straight at teh goals and draws backs to him and lays the ball off or fists over the bar...They have often worked goals & points for the inside forwards by doing this! You don't have to kick it long to create a yard or 2 for brogan or McMen

I'll have a look at them training on Thursday night and report back.
The Dubs had security on the gates to the training ground in DCU last night stopping people coming in.
My MH reg meant I was asked more questions than others!
I was chatting to the groundsman and he said that two Meath coaches arrived in for a look at the weekend.
He said they were wearing Meath tracksuits so if true they'd want to learn to become a bit more inconspicuous!

Yes!! very good theory ziggy. I think Keogan and Reilly need to stay in the full back line, the rest aren't tight enough and they should be marking definite scorers. With all respect ta Shane Mc I know he's our captain but I think Harrington should be starting. But is unlikely. Anyway this is all to try and confuse our management, but we can trust Evans, Giles and co. to come up with something, they are two very clever footballing people.
