person you are on about is stephen crosby

was at the rathoath drumconrath game and corner back for drums oran finnegan was best man on the field kept ratoath no.15 (who ripped open defense in 1st half!) quiet when he was moved onto him. i believe he has been asked to training he is drums most consistent performer and doesnt get the credit he deserves.

Padraig Mckeever or Sean Tobin worth a look!

Neither can play,

but i see that 3 or 4 of the OMahonys junior team last year have plaed senior already this year so im sure they should be good enough. think Crosby and Smyth can play on Meath Juniors 2012

I would say its an open ended squad at the moment and some players will be added whereas some will be moved on, with a couple of exceptions it looks like a decent enough squad and a lot of the players would have represented Meath at minor and U-21. I cant understand how some players have no interest in playing Junior football for Meath because if they have any ambition of playing senior with Meath this is a good stepping stone; some great senior players made a name for themselves with the Meath Juniors. If the best players rowed in behind the managment team an all-ireland could be there for the taking.

I can completely understand how people have no interest playing with the juniors. For one, it isnt taken seriously as training commences two or three weeks before championship. I dont believe Banty will pick from watching a junior team that isnt taken seriously, so there is no appeal. Also, why would somebody risk injury to play this. Dont get me wrong, If run properly it is an ideal way of fielding the equivilant "reserve" team, but with the current structure, it is an absolute joke and a farce. If an under 10 club team went out to play with 2 or 3 trainings, you wouldnt take them serious!!

Great question Flyer!! Its a steeping stone to bigger things, the dubs won a junior all ireland a few years back and last year o gara and bastick who played with the juniors won an all ireland! It only improves players and gives confidence to go on to bigger and better things!

has a point, I dont think any player from our club will make themselves available for the the juniors, its not a stepping stone therefore not taken serious by the players or county board. Maybe the same manager should take the under 21s and juniors and let the new manager put 10 players towards the senior panel at the start of the year to be cut as seen fit by the senior manager, if only one or two players made the cut that would be a success.

Id rather not give out that information flyer, but why do you ask? Didnt mean to sound negative, but this is an area we need to improve in structuring the county team. The day the juniors are taling seriously, is the day they we will field a similiar team to what people are talking about, not a made up team with 15 players out for a run!

In fairness I think a better effort is being made with the juniors this year… they were out for the last 2 Wednesday nights and they have another few weeks to prepare for their first round match. It would be impossible for the Junior team to train as intensively as the senior team because of club commitments but I do think it's good exposure for players who haven't yet got a chance with the senior team.

From what I have heard they played a challenge game against a strong senior club team from Kildare on Wednesday night and it finished in a draw. I wasn't at the match but I heard that Meath had a good team out made up mainly of former county minor and U-21's and they were also missing a couple of players who were injured. Andrew Tormay, Rory Maguire, Felim O' Reilly, Darragh Mc Namara, Damian Carroll, Danny Quinn, David Murtagh, Neil Shortall, Bryan Mc Mahon, Bobby O' Brien are some of the players that have featured so far.

If the junior team was used as kind of a development squad for younger players between 19-25 then I think if would be of huge benefit to the senior set-up over the next couple of years. The poor organisation and effort that has been seen with the juniors for the last couple of years is another indication as to why we are now lagging so far behind at every level of level of football in Meath, in recent years the junior manager would be appointed a few weeks before the championship and expected to put out a good team...once again the co. board needs to get its house in order, at this stage a leinster title at any level would be given a warm welcome in Meath.

i was down in longwood on wednesday night, meath have some fine footballers on the junior team, they played carbury from kildare i spoke to one of there suppoters ,they were in the county final in kildare last year ,they looked a very strong team, and i thought meath played very well, this is a good stepping stone for all young players for future senior ambititions, i would like to completment the mentors on what there are doing, and the best of luck to them in the championship,

Its a Very big ask for the players to be able to compete with teams who have been playing and training together since January.

This competition should be given more respect and some kind of structure needs to be in place to try and tie it in with the U21 and Senior squads.
I know this will be a difficult task with club and collage football etc. but surely there is a way we can get more out of this competition than present.

Anyway best of luck too all involved, hopefully we will get a good crowd out to support.

Lads you all seem to have overlooked one of the few Junior grade players that is still on the senior panel and eligible for Meath Juniors, Ciaran McConnell who was one of the more impressive u-21's this year and also Brian Cantwell who was on it last year. Youth should be given a chance and the team should be used as a stepping stone and a recruitment tool for the seniors but in the autocratic hands of the current county board not much will change with regard to the Junior set up. It is beyond ridiculous the negligence afforded towards this panel, a grade which we won an All Ireland in not so long ago which was itself surrounded by controversy. This attitude of concentrating attention on the seniors year in year out has become tiresome and is the very reason the seniors are struggling at the moment, every other grade has suffered because of it, this negligence is breeding failure throughout the ranks and unless there is a change at county board level, long will these type of discussions continue.
