Well after 2 very narrow defeats in injury time its now time to reproduce our fight and determination. Let's get back to free flowing football looking up and passing to player in better position. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 11/03/2012 21:24:54 1127177 Link 0 |
Win this and we can still get promotion MeathHill17 (Meath) - Posts: 40 - 11/03/2012 21:56:31 1127213 Link 0 |
Big game now alright, we need more points before heading to Omagh, we've lost two games we should have got something from which is disappointing but at least the games are coming thick and fast and there ain't much time to dwell on things. We are capable of beating Derry and I think we will, cut out the unforced errors and we should be ok Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3748 - 12/03/2012 10:21:58 1127284 Link 0 |
promotion is a long shot but the next game is do or die if we beat derry and louth we are safe hard to see past tyrone. joe our target man is gone and although it is a major loss to us it is also a good thing as it frees up a space on the starting 15 for players to fight for options here are brian farrel, newman, lenehan. thebigjoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 12/03/2012 11:21:58 1127358 Link 0 |
Brian Farell has had his chance for quite a few years now and hasn't really delivered. He was very good in his early years but that's a long time ago now. While he is mobile and a good freetaker, he's not really tough enough to compete in the modern game. Lacking in physicality at IC level anyway. Time to give Mickey Newman a window of opportunity to show what he can do. Same for Davy Dalton as we are been cleaned out at corner back. Both Bryan Mneton and Mickey Burke are better served in the half back line. Would the fact that the NUI Maynooth guys are obviously still at college, count against them. Studies must come first especially if exam and championship time clash somewhat. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 12/03/2012 11:38:40 1127386 Link 0 |
agree that farrell has never really peaked for county, as for micky newman would like to see how he goes but it will be very hard to see how he goes if banty only gives him 10-15 minutes, lenehan has young legs and little expierince in big games but then again you have to take a risk like the one we took on gilsenan who worked out to be the one of the hardest, fastest, and skillful plyaers introduced to this panel- he is like keny but more acurate with the boot thebigjoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 12/03/2012 11:49:47 1127407 Link 0 |
This is a MUST WIN. Promotion is still possible but we will need to win the rest of the matches seamusmac (Meath) - Posts: 379 - 12/03/2012 17:58:57 1127906 Link 0 |
This is now a must win for us if we're serious about promotion but also if we're serious about avoiding a relegation battle like last year, Division two is painfully tight this season and it looks like 5pts at least will be required to avoid relegation (I remember 5 or 6 years ago we went down with 6pts). If Meath and Kildare were to win the rest of their games would that mean Kildare would go through since they beat Meath or would it go on score difference PutItOver (Meath) - Posts: 23 - 12/03/2012 21:35:27 1128159 Link 0 |

That's probably our only slim change of promotion. Come on Monaghan (and Galway in moderation!). If we beat Derry on Sunday, it would justify making the trip to Omagh. We haven't completely rolled over on the road so far like in the past, but that is only based on one game v Galway. Tyrone would be more in keeping with what is a true test of same, to really highlight what if anything has changed this season. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 13/03/2012 11:09:05 1128338 Link 0 |

Brian Farrell not tough enough for intercounty football? I remember him cleaning out Donal Vaughan two seasons ago, now Mayo's centre-back. Banty doesn't know Meath football well enough so if you're not around for the O'Byrne cup he seems reluctant to throw a player into a league or championship game. I think Mickey Newman and Mark Collins have missed out for similar reasons. Farrell's still one of the top club forwards in Meath. Ollie99 (Meath) - Posts: 442 - 14/03/2012 13:34:47 1129290 Link 0 |
