Strength and conditioning is OBVIOUSLY the main problem in this county.

Wouldn't agree with that at all, yes the minors need a bit more strength but thats not the OBVIOUS problem in the county.. I think we all know the obvious problem in meath football is the underage structures in place or not in place whatever way you want to say it..Lets not do a kildare on it now..

Emphasis at underage should be on skills development. Dublin's emphasis on fitness and conditioning may come back to haunt them in the long run if they aren't producing more natural footballers like the Brogans. It's about getting the balance right.

Just a quick I noticed on the program for Sundays match that No 24 for Dublin Michael Deegan plays for Donaghmore Ashbourne. Question is how can someone playing underage club football in Meath can be able to play for Dublin and against his club team mates? If he can train with the Dublin minors why cant he play his club football with Fingallians or St. Maragrets or a club along the Dublin border??? Obviously he is a good player but Meath are not getting the benefit of this whille Ashbourne are facilitating his progress and development ? How many other players are doing likewise if any?

think it was obvious to see that Dublin had some very good, natural players especially in their forward line.
yes our strength and conditioning wasnt up to scratch but if we can get a few of these good players and keep them training and eventually turn into very good SENIOR players then everyone here will forget that we lost this minor final at all!
case in point, look at Kerry the last decade or so, no exceptional minor teams but some great senior players developed off them

I'd say this could become an issue for us. The county board should object to this, we're not a feeder county for Dublin. If they want to play with Dublin don't move to a club in Meath club.

Well bad day for the Senior Team - we only have the Minors to keep us going for the rest of the Summer ! Lets get behind them next weekend when they play Tyrone and hopefully they can do the job !

I hope Meath come out on top against Tyrone but Dublin exposed them all over the place and thats not good now or for the future of Meath football. Are the first 15 really the best Meath has? I dont think so and until the whole structure of sourcing the best players whether they all be from the one club or all over the county is changed then I dont see much hope in progressing Meath football. Some serious work should be put into researching who are the top players in the county and if that means attending games in all corners of Meath then the management team should be doing it.

SHERO I bet Dublin don't have their best 15 either. What they have is a proper development plan for them starting from u14 upwards building up their core strength and then moving onto proper strength and conditioning when they're old enough.

I have been reading the posts on Meath underage football for a while. Why is there such a fascination with doing weights and focusing on core strengthening. I would ask you to look at he way in which Dublin (as this is the example give continuously) can play. There is a balance to be struck in developing skills, stamina, strength and an ability to play and read the game. This balance is seriously lacking in Meath. There is no wish to develop football as a whole. Its about winning a medal. You only have to look at the number of divisions in football to understand this.

Forget about the core strength. Look at the skill levels over all. Look at the ability to kick the ball over the bar from play from 30, 40 50 metres out. Look at the games structure (funily enough in Dublin it is alternate weeks Hurling and Football), Look at the ability to read and develop game play, and then add in core strength, nutrition and even psychology if you wish.

You cannot play any sport to the highest level if you do not have a high level of skill PLUS all the other factors above.

To excel, you have to put in the effort on many levels, not just one.

Name 5 players who should be on the panel. forget about Wallace (opted out), Oisin Reilly (Injured). Name one good Minor not on panel playing 1st team Adult Club football. Senior, Intermediate or Junior.
