Best of Luck to the Minors tomorrow, hope there will be a big Meath crowd in early cheering them on. Like the seniors, they won't fear Dublin. Up the Royals. ClassApart (Meath) - Posts: 1200 - 21/07/2012 17:37:53 1224279 Link 0 |

To need major construction at under-age level,seems to be no structure to us,look at Dublin for example.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 23/07/2012 11:55:52 1225684 Link 0 |
Minors are not as bad as what we saw yesterday, something was wrong, just cannot put my finger on it. Auldfella (Meath) - Posts: 472 - 23/07/2012 12:33:20 1225772 Link 0 |
The Dubs had too much pace and movement for them to handle. Andy McEntee was on LMFM this morning saying the lads just weren't aggressive enough to be effective. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 23/07/2012 12:36:17 1225779 Link 0 |
Dunno whether the occasion got to them but it looked like they had fitness or strength, or if dublin were jus far superior in every facet of the game, dardis didnt seem to be able to hold nytin that went into him, ward for all his scores and good work was very awkward and didnt seem to have any strength when he was in possession, juicy (Meath) - Posts: 402 - 23/07/2012 12:41:37 1225793 Link 0 |
Yeh the minors are definitely not that bad. I thought our biggest problem was the ball going into the forwards was terrible. They were just lumping it in on top of them, instead of using the space. Dardis must have been frustrated because he didn't get much ball and that lad has a great eye for goal if he just got the ball. He was making runs and pointing for the ball into space and they failed to see this. But there are plenty of lads there that will be able to step it up to the Senior set up in the next few years, so thats a positive. Dublin's underage teams are way ahead of everyone else in terms of physical conditioning and mental attitude, as you would expect given the resources. Whether they are any more skillfull than other intercounty teams remains to be seen and how last years u21s will progress will reveal a lot about the work that Collin Moran, Farrell and Gavin have been putting in. They're not doing much wrong, that's for sure. Ollie99 (Meath) - Posts: 442 - 23/07/2012 17:32:51 1226487 Link 0 |
Disappointed that management left the two lads in the fullback line isolated 2 v 2 for all of the second half. Everyone else was outside the halfway line and every quick ball Dublin let in it was almost impossible to defend all that space. They should have dropped someone back to help out. Meath looked nervous and never got going, Dublin hit 8 points in the first 16 minutes which was quite devastating. However I didnt think Meath helped themselves by pumping long high ball into the forwards who were out muscled by physically stronger opponents surely the tactic should of been to stretch the Dublin defence and use our pace as much as possible. Our goalkeeper did quite well but I felt our kickouts put us under a lot of pressure and on many occasions they didnt go the required distance which put our half backs under a lot of pressure, we didnt do ourselves justice on the day as we the Dubs were only a few points better in the league final a while ago. The ball was terrible going into the full forward line but at the same time i dont think the runs by the full forwards were much better. The obvious problem is that Dublin are physically stronger by miles. This is the same at every level from u16 up to senior and it is the obvious reason why they are so successful these days. The same can be said in soccer. Many players who go to Manchester United are skin and bone at first and after a few seasons turn into tanks. Ronaldo is the perfect example and the strength and conditioning training he got brought him to the very top level. We can do all the press ups and sit ups in training but that just isnt good enough. The players need proper conditioning just like the Dublin players receive. Many coaches in the game have players doing weights in training when the coaches themselves dont know how to build strength no matter how many years they were in the game. They may also have them doing weights once a week in pre season training for about 8 weeks. That is absolutely pointless. Players will only get stronger if they do proper gym work with a proper strength and conditioning coach with set programmes for each player 3-4 times a week. As expensive as that is surely one strength coach could be employed full time for all county teams in Meath? ONE coach couldnt be that expensive could it? If not then players should take it upon themselves to join gyms cos we will only keep falling behind if we dont bulk up. The old cliche of picking up a shovel and spade and doing some farmwork to build strength just wont cut it anymore. We need to keep up with the times because we are falling behind. Strength and conditioning is OBVIOUSLY the main problem in this county. JulianstownBoyo (Meath) - Posts: 196 - 24/07/2012 12:02:12 1227176 Link 0 |
