To need major construction at under-age level, seems to be no structure to us,look at Dublin for example..

Minors are not as bad as what we saw yesterday, something was wrong, just cannot put my finger on it.

The Dubs had too much pace and movement for them to handle. Andy McEntee was on LMFM this morning saying the lads just weren't aggressive enough to be effective.

Dunno whether the occasion got to them but it looked like they had fitness or strength, or if dublin were jus far superior in every facet of the game, dardis didnt seem to be able to hold nytin that went into him, ward for all his scores and good work was very awkward and didnt seem to have any strength when he was in possession,

But there still in the competition and face a difficult game against Tyrone and theyll have to lift themsleves quickly to have any chance there

Yeh the minors are definitely not that bad. I thought our biggest problem was the ball going into the forwards was terrible. They were just lumping it in on top of them, instead of using the space. Dardis must have been frustrated because he didn't get much ball and that lad has a great eye for goal if he just got the ball. He was making runs and pointing for the ball into space and they failed to see this. But there are plenty of lads there that will be able to step it up to the Senior set up in the next few years, so thats a positive.

Dublin's underage teams are way ahead of everyone else in terms of physical conditioning and mental attitude, as you would expect given the resources. Whether they are any more skillfull than other intercounty teams remains to be seen and how last years u21s will progress will reveal a lot about the work that Collin Moran, Farrell and Gavin have been putting in. They're not doing much wrong, that's for sure.

Meath might have let the occasion get to them but it will stand them in good stead. There are some really nice footballers on that team but Westmeath did not provide much of a test for them.

Disappointed that management left the two lads in the fullback line isolated 2 v 2 for all of the second half. Everyone else was outside the halfway line and every quick ball Dublin let in it was almost impossible to defend all that space. They should have dropped someone back to help out.

Hopefully they can pick themselves up for the next round

Meath looked nervous and never got going, Dublin hit 8 points in the first 16 minutes which was quite devastating. However I didnt think Meath helped themselves by pumping long high ball into the forwards who were out muscled by physically stronger opponents surely the tactic should of been to stretch the Dublin defence and use our pace as much as possible. Our goalkeeper did quite well but I felt our kickouts put us under a lot of pressure and on many occasions they didnt go the required distance which put our half backs under a lot of pressure, we didnt do ourselves justice on the day as we the Dubs were only a few points better in the league final a while ago.

Dublin are now starting to dominate football at all levels in leinster our U-16's were destroyed by Dublin last weekend in the Gerry Reilly tournament, as a county they have really got their act together and they are starting to utilise their obvious advantage which is their population and now they have one of the best underage structures in the country...their U-16 squad has been doing strength and conditioning training for a considerable amount of time and it was evident in last weeks Gerry Reilly tournament where a lot of their players looked like they were U-18 rather than U-16, it will be difficult for the rest of Leinster to get a look in with Dublin if they continue to put this level of preparation into underage teams.

However Tipperary proved last year that significant progress can be made with the right long term planning and they won the all-ireland with a minor team packed with U-17 and a couple of U-16 players and they are now starting to dominate at all age levels from U-15 to U-18 in Munster and they had to start from a very low base. This years Meath minor team are better than I have seen over the last few years and yesterday they just didnt perfrom but it is enivitalbe that you will hit these blips along the way, we have improved our level of preparation this year and already next years minor squad is starting to be assembled so I think with the right long term planning and type of training we can become a major force at underage level again soon.

The ball was terrible going into the full forward line but at the same time i dont think the runs by the full forwards were much better. The obvious problem is that Dublin are physically stronger by miles. This is the same at every level from u16 up to senior and it is the obvious reason why they are so successful these days. The same can be said in soccer. Many players who go to Manchester United are skin and bone at first and after a few seasons turn into tanks. Ronaldo is the perfect example and the strength and conditioning training he got brought him to the very top level. We can do all the press ups and sit ups in training but that just isnt good enough. The players need proper conditioning just like the Dublin players receive. Many coaches in the game have players doing weights in training when the coaches themselves dont know how to build strength no matter how many years they were in the game. They may also have them doing weights once a week in pre season training for about 8 weeks. That is absolutely pointless. Players will only get stronger if they do proper gym work with a proper strength and conditioning coach with set programmes for each player 3-4 times a week. As expensive as that is surely one strength coach could be employed full time for all county teams in Meath? ONE coach couldnt be that expensive could it? If not then players should take it upon themselves to join gyms cos we will only keep falling behind if we dont bulk up. The old cliche of picking up a shovel and spade and doing some farmwork to build strength just wont cut it anymore. We need to keep up with the times because we are falling behind. Strength and conditioning is OBVIOUSLY the main problem in this county.
