Cowardlyasafox so on the basis of a few challenge matches you reckon you can tell whether there has been a decline in meath club football. what a ridiculous comment, have you any idea of the teams that were put out in these matches I doubt it very much, very few challenges if any are played with full teams. Also when did these matches take place cant have been too recent as all the meath teams you mentioned have been busy of late. there was a round of A leagues the week before the quarter finals senchelstown had a league final the week after that and the Tones were involved in hurling and o mahoneys played in the feis cup.

Well Don Ash and Seneschalstown weren't playing those games for the good of their health, they were full on matches to test themselves and they both came up a long way short, and thats coming from the management of both sides by the way, don't know much about o mahoney's or Tones matches. Anyone who can't see that the standard of football in meath has plummeted is in cuckoo land, Trim were hammered last year at Senior, 19 pts i think in one game and are now in inter final, Don ash second string in Junior final, Compare Summerhill team that won SFC last year to side that lost in 2008, Look at O mahoney's team of today, 4/5 on team that wouldn't make it off the bench in 2009.....it will be an even final and won't be one bit surprised if Tones win it as they have better players available to them than any other side in county

Really looking forward to the following battles:
1. Paddy Smyth vs Niall McLoughlin (the key battle imo - if Smyth can get on top Navan will have one hand on cup)
2. Cian Ward vs Niall McKeigue possibly?
3. Harrington vs Forde
4. Midfield battle
5. Stephen Bray vs Ciaran McLoughlin (think Tones need to look at this as Bray will easily have the legs on him)
6. Stephen Sheppard vs Gary O'Brien possibly?

Wonder will O'Mahoneys bottle it again? I am delighted as a spectator that David Coldrick is ref instead of Cormac Reilly who I think has ruined so many big games in the past 2-3 years. Best of Luck David.

Not being snotty, but just dont understand your examples, maybe you can clarify?

1) "Trim hammered last year now in Inter Final"? Are u saying thats good or bad?
2) "Don/Ash 2nd string in Junior Final"? Good or bad?
3) "Compare Summerhill 2011 & 2008"? Better or worse?
4) O'Mahoneys worse today than 2009.... Ok I get this one, but what do you mean regarding other 3 points?

Sorry for any misunderstanding but my examples show how the standard across the board has slided in Meath,

A team that would be so far off at senior level and get relegated would normally not be in the shake up at intermediate, Summerhill had a fantastic side in 2008 with Rory Donnely, Mark O reilly, Maurice Kennedy at full tilt and another two very able footballers but they were hammered in final, 3 years later a vastly poorer 'Hill win the championship. It doesn't reflect well that any teams second string can come within a whisker of winning Junior championship, Think of what ratoath have at their disposal in terms of numbers and in the latter stages Don ash had surely used 20 odd players in their Senior ranks, O Mahoneys were beaten by Bective by approx 10/12 points and this o Mahoney's side had a few big names and then Bective were deservedly beaten by Don Ash. Just making the point that i would not envy Mick o Dowd in his task....

I never realised McLoughlin was 28, it a shame really he's an absolutely brilliant player. I think Sheppard should be giving another shot at meath, forget about the Geraghty incident.

Sorry just lookin at previous post that summerhill had a better team in 2008 than 2011 what a load of rubbish most of them were playing in both with the exception of Reilly (retired and Kennedy injured week before final)d rest they were very young players at d time who have come on from that they will b knockin on d door 4 nxt few years if keep panel together

I would say it is a fair comment that summerhill had a better side in 08, kennedy, donnley, o reilly were 3 top club footballers

i think a fair way to judge the standard of meath club football is to look at the fact that only 3 meath clubs have ever won the leinster sfc. i could be wrong but i think summerhill dunshaughlin and walterstown are the only teams to have won it,if so its a very poor record

Meath's record at senior club level is very poor compared to our county successes alright. I'm not sure that a strong club representation at Leinster level is a hugely benficial thing to the county though. Do all Armagh people delight in Crossmaglens successes? Does it improve their county team?
Our junior teams have had 5 Leinsters in a row, has this improved the county junior side?

(And please nobody use some type of the hackneyed "Our club teams don't do well at provincial level as they are exhausted, since our club championship is of such high quality and difficult to win" excuse, it's such a weak excuse that holds no water. I don't often hear it about Meath clubs but other counties seem to often use it.)
