Not sure about us scoring alot ,in our last few games we seem to be playing very deep and leaving a few forwards isolated, plus we may be missing a few lads upfront.

Think it is time to stop the major experimenting and get a close to full strength team out there tonight..so that they can gel properly and work as a unit. Meath were far too fragmented in the O Byrne Cup with a lack of fluency between the backs and forwards. Now is the time to get a proper team in order so that come the ''bigger'' games they are more structured. Need a big performance tonight but wouldn't write of Monaghan they are well used to playing the Div 1 teams and its more or less the same championship team.

Personally I think pukefootballs point is one of the stupidest I've heard.
He's rambling in about Monaghan being a div 1 team last year and Neath being so close to relegation last year to try and make a comparison of this game being between a div 1 quality team v a div 3 quality team.

The facts however are very different.

Monaghan fulfilled fixtures in div 1 last year and that was about it. They were way below the rest if the teams in that division, and as a result, they are in div 2 this year.
Meath, while having a poor campaign, did NOT get relegated to div 2.

Both teams are div2 level with Meath slightly ahead of Monaghan. To try and compare them to a div 1 team is bizarre.

As for all the queries about the team.

I reckon he will throw Cian Ward in as we were woefull on the frees of late.
Doubt joe will start.

Wonder if there'll be any made selections along the lines of when king was put ff? Chris O'Comnor maybe?.......

It's worth mentioning that Offaly knocked Monaghan out of the championship(by 8 points),if we put up a decent performance we will win,but a similar display against DCU and then Monaghan can win

Another thing on the naming of the team.

Tyrone named theirs yesterday, they are now lining up with FOUR replacements from the original selection.

Naming GAA teams now seem to be a pointless exercise until before kick off.

from the twitter feed, gilsenan and bray give us a 3 point lead less than 10 mins into the second half. Big joe on for sheridan.

Good first half very competent display. Second half went asleep again for middle of second half that has to stop but wow when our forwards perform the are good. Disgraceful that paddy gilsennan got sent off first yellow was not deserved and hope co board appeals it he was outstanding
Bray much sharper cian still rusty but a few great scores joe also very in need of run out. Fair play to monaghan just in need of few forwards who can finish. Any how a win but the falling asleep in second half has to stop. Well done lads and management we got what we needed and scoring was impressive

Midfield very poor again. Good job we brought Joe on at half time, the forward line lacked shape/balance for most of the first half despite scoring 10 pts. They responded well to the Monaghan goal kicking four points before the break. Second half our forward line looked more like what it should be, even if the two inside men were a bit rusty. Fair play to McAnarney, he worked very hard all game and his efforts were rewarded with a great run and nicely taken goal. If Monaghan brought their shooting boots it would have been a very close and nervy finish. They could even have shaded it. Midfield needs something radical and fast and our backs are too loose.

I actually thought our backs were better than of late but in total agreement re mid field. And so right to mention mcanerny he was superb. Also chris oconnor was a lot more comfortable coming upfield all in all a possitive start but lots to be done. Bring on the westies

OK Monaghan only score three second half points (makes backs look good), but they kicked numerous wides. The fact they got so many chances second half, says the backs still need to tighten up, even though midfield is by far the biggest concern. Chris O'Connor may have been playing Kenny's old role to some degree second half, so won some ball and is pretty good going forward, but the Monaghan #18 was still getting a lot of freedom to build attacks as well.

Full back line was exposed at times,Kevin Reilly must return here when fit.Could Brian Menton play as a coner back maybe!!
Mickey burke isnt the answer to corner back in my opinion i would play (2).menton (3).reilly (4).o,brien when all fit!!
Half back line was ok Mc Inarney has made 6 his..would play cormac mcguiness and Lenihan either side of shane
Midfeild was poor with ward and meade,Mark Ward has been around for 5 years at least and still lets the side down,Meade is a work horse and i would leave him there and replace ward with Shane O,Rourke when he is fit
Kenny and Reilly are fine in the half forward line,no problems there,Just need to play some one with them.. possibly Bray at 11
Full Forward line is ward.joe.gilsenan no questions!!!

Anyway decent performance forwards looked very good at times
Just a matter of not getting too excited and working hard in the team

Good display,Monaghan where better than I thought they would be,feel sorry for Gilsenan no way should he have been sent off.We tried to play good football and at times it was very good, the goal was a super team goal.If we could sort out our midfield and win more breaking ball so that the forwards could get more ball, then we would be a very good side.We rely on Ward to win everything at midfield,Meade doesn't help
