No midfield = No success

Spot on but Banty is trying to fix this problem (thankfully)

Tough game Sunday I have gone for a Meath win from early on this can happen but really feel worried about this one.

4 out of 5 now. Did not go to game was worried about this one looking like the show is over. Not a hope of beating Tyrone and big worry about handling Louth now. Division 3 a real reality now

Lets be pragmatic about this...I presume we're talking AI SFC(league on d other thread)

Leinster championship 2012 has may 27 Mhi v wicklow. Jun10 is mhi/wicklow v carlow.
Jul 11 Leinster semi Has mhi/wicklow/car low v offaly/kildare.
Jul 22 Leinster final is Dublin/westmeath/louth v /longford/laois/wexford V mhi/wicklow/car low v offaly/kildare

As the fella sez, IF meath were on top of their game, and barring shocks on the other side of the draw, a leinster semi (in my humble opinion) is v kildara, a leinster final is Dublin
So the question is...can mhi go that road? I don't want to look further buiochas le dia for now than wicklow...

On to tyrone then louth unfortunately we will remain in div 2. Then come championship we will see the fruits of this trying time. We are going to a leinster final nothing else will do. I have never seen a leinster won or lost in march.

we'll do well to bring any points back from Tyrone now in our next game, and then it'll be a tough game v Louth to stay up. We should probably stay up but it's bitterly dssappoining having one the fist two games. In fairness, the signs have always been there, even when winning the first two games you could see some of the problems festering. Those problems have been exposed to a greater extent in the past few games. The Derry result is really dissappointing considering how poorly they were doing. Add in the selections made......maybe Banty has a grand master plan to lull everyone into a false sense of security and thenn surprise them all in the C'ship

5 out of 6.

Definitely very very worried about last game I did predict a Meath win at home in Navan over Louth but now Im not so sure. Louth have everything to gain and really nothing to lose and will give it a serious lash. Should the Louth men relegate us than all we can say is we deserve it.

I am going to stick my neck out and predict that Meath will be playing Division 3 football next season, and, frankly, I think that that is an accurate reflection of the current panel's abilities and status. I think Louth, who are playing consistently, if not very well, are more than capable of beating Meath in Navan, and I think that Westmeath, poor as they are, are also well capable of turning over Derry in Mullingar. In which case Meath are down. This is a mediocre squad of players, of limited talent and brittle mentality, who ought now be utterly demoralised after another dire performance.

There is a systemic failure in Meath, and it starts with the ongoing failure over 15 years or more to produce successful under-age talent. There are many many other problems clearly. The cumulative effect of this over a long long period of time has seen Meath loose their mantle as the best and most successful county in Ireland between 1986-2001 to being "also-rans" in Division 2, to now being on the cusp - both this year and last - of Division 3. Sadly, there is no quick solution, but the miserable string of seasons endured by Meath fans cannot be put down bad luck or an inevitable lull after a period of unprecedented success and until there is a proper structural review of football in the county, that is not going to change.

Just out of interest lads, where do you think Meath would be if they had Keiran McGeeney in charge?

I reckon Meath wll stay up no matter what. Sometimes I feel Meath deserve to be in division 3 but I think come next sunday they will beat Louth and then find out it was irrelevant anyway as other results would've kept them up. They'll get a dishonourable survival, same as last year.

He would have been gone after a couple of years. Meath manager is the most poison chalice within gaa and even if he got the exact same results as he got in kildare he wouldn't have lasted that long at all, as the supporters would be demanding more.
We got rid of a guy who brought us to a all ire semi one year and hammered dublin for first time in 10 years, and a leinster. Straight after he was gone. In kildare he would have been seen as a god with eob shirts everywhere. Don't figure!!!

There's no way of ever knowing but now that you've made me think about it going outside the county taking a chance on an Armagh man would have made more sense than the Banty. The reason for this opinion is that McGeeney's playing days were - by Kernan & co's admission - were based on a modernised version of the 80's and 90's Meath. Where we failed to evolve our game Armagh took the blue prints and did it in our stead.

I think he would have the lads in good knick playing a version of the game more more at home with them. Ultimately I don't think he or anyone else would be winning All-Irelands with Meath this year if he had been developing them for the past few years as the talent IN DEPTH isn't/hasn't been there. Lads would have to respect him though as having been a massive footbaler, with a huge heart, courage and cultured left boot and that would have to go a long way also.

Good question

As a proud Meath man I am disgusted getting the Derry game wrong was in a way acceptable but to be hammered out the gate by Louth well what can you say. Definite worry for the Wicklow game now but still we will recover and beat them and Carlow and get beaten by Kildare win a few quailifers ans as in last few years make up a few excuses that everything is kinda ok

I honestly think we can make a Leinster final and if it was against Dublin well anything can happen the teams form going into the game will have no bearing on the result.

Post 7th Jan 2012

In the Championship Wicklow can be tough as Armagh found out last year but we should get over them and I would expect a 7/8 point win over Carlow and Honestly I think we will take Kildare and would take a League defeat for a Leinster Semi win which I feel will happen. Leinster Final against the Dubs I could never back against Meath .

Honestly mid table in League, One win over Kildare and a Leinster Final appearance is my wish list.

Well here we go again. Got stage one right and pretty confident I will get stage 2 correct also. My January taughts on the Kildare game have me despite the weather shivering in my flip flops but hope springs eternal.

Taught Wicklow where apart from the 1st quarter pretty useless. Good to see Kevin Reilly playing well, Brian Meade did good but am afraid that could be it for the rest of the summer for I have lost confidence in him as a few years back I felt he was going to be the next great Meath midfielder hope he proves he wrong and right on both accounts.

Biggie as ever is great when you winning wonder how will he fair 2 games hence there be no galloping up the middle v Kildare.

Donal Keoghan did really well as did Alan Forde and Mark Collins while a bit light weight did well enough. Farrells disappearance for the 2nd half is worrying while Wards poor show is happening too often.

I said a Leinster final and it will all come down to one big game against Kildare, the \Carlow game will further boost fitness and we will be positioned nicely coming in against Kildare.
