Complaining about who is reffing our games is complete rubbish. As far as I'm concerned its 15 against 15 on Saturday evening. No ref goes out to 'do' a team or favour one team, thats stupid talk. Can't believe this thread is the main topic of discussion on here today !! Michael Collins isn't the best referee around but to say he favoured Galway in the 2001 All Ireland final is wrong. We were beat fairs and squares, to this day I say we never turned up, perhaps our demolishment of Kerry in the semi didn't do us any favours as the players just thought they had to 'tog ou'. Things didn't go right that day! Trevor missed a penalty, Joyce was too smart for Fay and we lost Ollie and as mentioned Nestor was sent off .... Here we are fast forward 10 years, we are still the last team to represent Leinster in an All Ireland final. Best of luck to the lads on Saturday and of course the man in the middle Collina. rocknroyal (Meath) - Posts: 308 - 05/07/2011 19:02:37 975731 Link 0 |

I couldn't tell you that one !! But to be basic, what I meant is that the Galway forwards ran a riot in our defence through out the game, Joyce scored 11 odd points, I know majority were frees but he was the thorn in our backline. rocknroyal (Meath) - Posts: 308 - 05/07/2011 19:38:55 975779 Link 0 |

No point complaining about the appointment, with our popularity level and the poor standard of refereeing in general I dont think it makes much difference who is appointed referee although I will admit I do not like the man, 2001 was not as evident as Meath did enough harm to themselves that day but his encore in 2002 had me knocking lumps out of the floor of the new Hogan. I stand to be corrected on this but did the Meath County Board not sent a letter to Croke Park at one point objecting to Collins being appointed to a Meath game again? Maybe it was never sent but I certainly remember chat over it. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3772 - 05/07/2011 20:01:15 975794 Link 0 |

For God's sake lads, will ye show the ref selected a bit of respect? It's good to see a lot of Meath posters sticking up for him, and we all crib about bad desicions after a game, but what ye're doing is just baiting the ref. It seems to be a popular sport in the Meath pages... you can travel around HS and the number of threads created about refs for upcoming games would be rare, except in here... It doesn't reflect well on the good Royal supporters. The man has a job to do and he'll do his best regardless of what ye write... what more do ye want from him? Totally agree we were outplayed in the 2001 final and no fault of the referee, all i was saying is he is a very ordinary referee who never seems to do meath much favours.to be honest i didnt realise he was still doing the job as i thought he was long retired. And nobody try tell me here that referee"s dont be influenced by other parties,Tommy howard was slated by certain people in 91 after meath won the 4th game against the dubs, what did he do the following year ??? let dublin score a point a minute over the time and blew it up with the resulting kickout. It happens in every sport including are own where officials are intimidated and influenced by panelists(pat spillane) and the media.Lets be honest here, graham geraghtys goal would have stood this year against kildare if it wasnt for what happened in the leinster final the previous year although kildare were the better team on the day.But my taking from the incident was that the referee had last years leinster final in the back of his head and when he seen the close call he was only going to do one thing. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1146 - 06/07/2011 11:02:08 976042 Link 0 |
