Think he was talking about Hugh Mcgrillen, hard to know who Kildare will play there.

Question is,is Paddy capable of doing that consistently??

Overall I was impressed with Meaths display...however I would be a bit concerned that we were a bit one dimensional in attack and are lacking a bit of pace, if yesterday proved one thing to me its that Cian Ward does not offer enough from open play to be on the team...Paddy Gilsenan offers a lot more and I thought he put Ricey on the back foot from the minute he was introduced, kicked one point and was unlucky with another effort and also won a kick-out cleanly...a forward must be able to win his own ball.

the only reason meath stayed up in division 2 was thanks to kildare beating sligo for them

With Peter Kelly injured, McGrillen has moved out to the corner and Foley has come in at flull back. Been playing very well too.

Yeah ok geezerslillies you made your point and we are grateful we really are but also we cant leave out the fact that we got a draw against a team that handed ye your backsides on a plate last weekend and that earned us a crucial point that brought your fine result into play. So although the Kildare result was important it would have counted for nothing if we hadn't got something in Navan, a little from coloum A and a little from coloum B so to speak!!

Just wonder was Paddy O'Rourke an experiment playing him out field. I saw him in the county final and he was man of the match for me that day. He had great fielding and range in his shots as would be expected with a goal keeper. Can you see him being kept out filed for the championship?. It's not a bad option to have an "more than capable" dual position player if you like.

It's aleague than can be put to the back of the minds now and concentrate on the championship. I would have at least expected or hoped for a Div 2 final this year but it wasn't to be. Miracle cures wont happen over night with Banty but if we are lifting the Delany Cup in the depths of summer we wont complain.

Let the theme music from The Sunday Game spark up until the real Irish summer time begins.

Yes Meath were lucky in the end but they did beat us so no complaints.
Our downfall was not beating Donegal in the 1st round.

Good Luck in the Championship.

Well Balls if you heard that the ref gave us everything it must be true. The Tyrone point in the first half where the forward elbowed our defender before popping it over the bar must have been in everyone's imagination. Also, Tyrone players throwing themselves to the ground at every opportunity (not unlike Louth players at a certain game last season) must have been all in our heads as well.

However, I genuinely wish ye luck in the Division 3 final despite also getting a sizeable chunk of luck on the final day. Also best of luck in your All Ireland Final against us next year.

Safe and sound, baby!

And it looks like we'll be playing Louth and Monaghan in Div 2 next year, you couldn't make this stuff up.

That's a huge weight off the lads' backs, they don't have to face into the summer feeling like failures. If they stay fit then, Micklow, Kildare... watch out.

Fair play to everyone involved but that Banty fella... Love to see what he'd be like if we actually won something? Still though, he was bold enough to experiment with playing lads in new positions, gave plenty of the u21s game-time and we're starting to see a much more robust squad heading into the Championship. Good stuff.

"Paddy Gilsenan offers a lot more and I thought he put Ricey on the back foot from the minute he was introduced, kicked one point and was unlucky with another effort and also won a kick-out cleanly...a forward must be able to win his own ball."

Just last week a poster on here reckoned that Paddy Gilsenan shouldn't be on the team because he is too small and cant win his own ball which every forward apparently must be able to do.

Personally I reckon that the whole cliche of forwards having to win their own ball is nonsense. What it means is that if you lob a big hail-mary ball in on top of the forward you expect him to be able to compete for it and win his share. Where would that leave the likes of Bernard Flynn, one of the best forwards Meath have every produced. There is no way he would have been able to win his own ball if that was the sort of ball he was expected to compete for.
How about instead of just hoofing the ball in over the heads of the forwards every time, we mix up our game a little. Play a few good low balls out in front of smaller forwards and let them use their pace and skill to beat their man. One of the many problems Meath have had over the past few years is that we are too predictable. Good teams just put extra men around the full back line, and instruct the backs to break down the ball which the extra men hoover up. We need variety in our game and I feel that there has to be a place for a quick skillfull player because he brings something different to the side. I am not saying that Gilsenan is the man - too early for that, but its good to see him given a chance.

Well if people where listening I think Banty will give us better tactical plans, than O'Brien did.. Even yesterday he used the bench well, and we did mix it up a bit.. It will take time but give him the time!!
