Who has Gerry Cooney got in his backroom staff, anyone know?

Andy McEntee, Darren Fay & Finisn Murtagh.
John Coughlan (who?) to be the fitness coach.

The thing is tho, banty is the name being proposed & put forward to the clubs. So that's the preferred choice of the co board. If the clubs don't go with banty, how do you go back & ask cooney?
"sorry Gerry, we don't really want ya, but were stuck now, how are ya fixed?"
Would he feel he has the appropriate backing of the top brass within the county, given that there's been so much said this week about banty being the unanimous choice & all that.

Well Banty is in and I for one am glad not just for him but for the backroom team that he bringing. Harnan and Grimley two of the hardest nuts ever to play Gaelic Football are there and surely now there will be no easy ride for anyone. It's a results business so if he does the business I dont think people will mind where he is from.

At last we have a resolution, for better or for worse. Its time to push on now. If Mc Elkennon can get Meath as fit as Monaghan were last year it would be a great start. Best of luck to Banty and the new team. Hopefully the whole county will get behind him and we can make some progress in the next few years.

New Meath Boss is in!

So lads, McEnaney is in as of last night. I know people have been wondering would he get it or not but now our questions are answered and its a done deal! What does everyone think are we happy?

Whether people are happy or not is not really the point. The important aspect is this drawn out saga is at an end and we can look forward with some optimism to 2011. The positives are he has been given a 3yr stint with a review after year 2. It has been a clever move by Harnan and I'm sure he will take charge of the U-21's. Looking forward to the new season and hopefully the players will embrace the new management team with 'Consistency' and renewed 'Spirit'

Andy McEntee was to go in with Cooney? Well that fairly messed up Cooneys chances anyway, what was he thinking there? Ok Fay might have been good to have on board, but what would McEntee have brought to the set up?

Well said Anseo, Time to move forward and accept the new management, at the end of the day success is all a manager wants for a team and hopefully the new Boss can do it for us! Heres looking forward to a new revitalised, hungry Meath team for 2011!

While i am not a fan of outside candidates at least his selection is behind us.
It just takes away from the fabric of the gaa that in a county of over 160000
people we cannot find anyone willing or able to take on the county job.

Just as a post scripted i wonder are the new meath hurling selectors
going to cost the county board 11000 a month

Now that Banty and his team have beeb appointed lets get behind them and wish them the best of Luck. Hopefully we can improve on our fittness and speed levels and really give the league a go for starters. Getting promotion to Div 1 would be the first target in my opinion. Use the O'Byrne cup to look at new players but don't send out a team full of new players as this does nothing for either the players or manager. New players need to be blended into the team. The new management team will probably need to put out fairly strong teams from the off so they can get a good idea of what our best combination is before champo time.

Well done I believe use have got a good manager now. Very surprised a county like Meath that has won so much when Meath men have been manager have decided to go outside the county.look at Louth over last number of years with outside managers and done nothing and the first year a Louth man is manager they get to Leinster final and we all know how that ended. Look at Galway took in big Joe and lasted only one year. Also Meath have been known for playing good attacking football however I don't believe the new management will continue with this tradition. If you look at Monaghan over last six years and how negative they were. Also I hear on lmfm that the management team will cost 11000 euro a month. How true is this because even if Meath win the all Ireland I really can't see how any county board could pay that money especially in the current climate. Best of luck next season would be great to meet on a certain Sunday in July again. Was a great Leinster final that none of us will ever forget.

Good luck to Banty and his team, even more delighted that Trevor is also on board. Here's to hoping we will soon have a return to September glory days. An Mhí Abu.

Great news that they got in. Its a whole new approach for us going down this route and hopefully it will pay off with some success in 2011 and beyond. Best of luck to Seamus and all involved.

Mr. Banty's first and last championship match will be against the Garden County.

Jaysus Atta you are starting to sound like a broken record at this stage. He's in, get over it and stop posting the same whinge every other day.

The delegates asked numerous questions about the finances and were obviously happy with the answers as they voted overwhelmingly in Banty's favour.

That's good enough for me.

then i will reserve the right to say i told you so, on the other hand
if his appointment proves to be a success then terrific

From a Louth man's perspective I hope Banty's involvement with Meath will be a continuation of where he left of with Monaghan.

Best of luck to him anyway regardless of all the other issues. If he brings success all that will be a footnote in history. Heres to a bright future as we watch Louth disappear back to mediocrity where they belong. Bring on Dublin, Kerry and Cork

Sad day for Meath GAA.. honestly cant believe a Monaghan man is the meath senior football manager. The chap has won nothing and he fitness trainer has won nothing. Meath fans be carefull what u wish for..
Anyway it what the players and Meath media darlings wanted so at least the players have no one else to blame next year only themselves. As a meath man best of luck to them but disgusted we had to go outside county for a manager when guys from within the co with far more successful CV's.
