Banty for Meath Job

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just found a very long quote( edited here ) from a book by Gerry Cooney. It seems hes been away from meath GAA in recent years :
In August 2007 I visited Namibia in South West Africa ..... I had been there once before many years ago .... Iwas blown away by the sheer beauty of the farm. We signed for the farm on December 1st and my life was about to change drastically as I took leave of absence from my job as an Addiction counsellor at the Rutland Treatment Centre in Dublin.
I spent the best part of fifteen months alone without my family setting up the business and working in an incredible country with incredible people..... at fifty years of age.... The experience has been life changing for me and it's largely to do with the people I have met during my time in Namibia.
...Gerry Cooney

McEnaneys management team including Liam Harnan is the best thats available to Meath at the moment. Anyone who knows Harnan will know hes not there just as a token selector. He'll be very much hands on. All will be revealed on Wed but rumour has it there in...

Don't underestimate the Meath county board just yet, stranger things have happened in the past!

for a man who asked a question about cooneys experience in last 12 months you sure came up with your own answer within a very quick time. You must have some google on your machine ??

All this nonsense talk on here about not having an outside man in the Meath job, What kind of memories have you lot got, We won an All Ireland minor title in 91 with Paul Kenny a Louth man for gods sake and again in 92 with another outsider, What about the U21 in 93, Then there's Pat Coyle Paddy Carr and the latest Minor manager A former Kildare great. We had no objection to these men and why should we. If they want to do the job and have the ability then let them at it. The problem is not the manager but the backup from the county board. The lack of leadership and business know how in there is frightening with no end in sight to the problem. Look at our county grounds for instance it's a holy disgrace, the dressing rooms are worse than any club rooms in the county the showers are disgusting and don't even mention the toilets. The roof of the stand is asbestos and should be closed under health and safety, It would in any other country in the developed world. After the Celtic years we only have a few pitches in Dunganny to show for our efforts. Answer nothing. If Banty is the best man for the job then lets get behind him and the team with all we've got. Mind you after this budget we might not have much left to give. What a way to lift the gloom and doom in the county for a small while with an All Ireland Title. Go Meath Go.

So will he get it or not???

On one side you have those who strenuosly oppose an outside manager and the reportedly large "expenses" package that he and his staff will require.

On the other side you have those who believe he and (more importantly) his backroom team clearly have more talent, experience and know-how than the native options and this is what should count - not the cost or where they come from.

No doubt the meeting tomorrow night will be full of drama and the key question is which side of the battle will have majority in numbers?

I honestly believe that, between them all, Liam Keane, Joe Cassells, the county chairman and executive and especially Liam Harnan are smart enough, and genuine enough and experienced enough to make an educated assessment on who to recommend to the delegates to take charge of the Meath senior footballers in 2011.
There is a helluva lot of integrity and honour for the Meath team as well as proven experience -on and off the playing field- coming with their considered opinions individually and collectively.
I truly hope that these opinions will be approved by the delegates Tomorrow night for the good of the Meath senior football team.
As Harnan said today- its about Meath and Meath football- and I hope he is given the go ahead to influence and tutor the current crop of players one to one !!!!.
The bickering and sniping needs to end. Theres so much more to be done besides.
Other than the Wums, imo were all on the one side anyway-Meath's

Harnan's rally Call to Meath Clubs

Well, Has Harnan done enough to convince the Club Delegates that this is the right way forward for Meath football??

Personally, I think he has and if this management team is not ratified tomorrow night, Meath Football will certainly be in a state of "Chassis"

bottom line is if this isnt ratified tomorrow by the clubs then we can kiss goodbye to any person with any ounce of a brain cell ever taking a stab at the meath job again

This has to be put through tomorrow night. I dont like Meath football being splashed over every newspaper, radio station and websites for all the wrong reasons everyday. If this is not put through they could start a new selection process and any genuion Meath person doesn't want this. I just cannot understand why this has evolved into a huge issue.

if banty and his team arent ratified then people will hav to look at wher they want meath football going...banty and is team are the way forward...they are a management team based on the modern game...the reason EOB was booted was because he was probably a bit old fashioned...meath football at the moment needs some1 with a fresh approach and banty and his team offer that!

what exactly is this modern fresh approach being offered by these men and how does it differ from whats being offered by cooney? at this stage he should just be ratified and let him get on with it, i personally dont think he's the man for the job but if he does not get ratified tonight then what happens in the weeks to come will do us no favours.
