Banty for Meath Job

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Would be interested in getting peoples thoughts on this???

Just read on the Monaghan home page that he has been nominated..is this true? Also read that he would bring both Grimley and MlKennon with him if he got the job...While Im not too keen on an outside manager and in particular Banty, I do feel that the two guys with him could bring something to Meath..Therefore maybe it wouldnt be a bad team...

Thoughts please??

Was he nominated for the job? I dont think the current chairman will go for an outside man

I think this would be a good move for Meath however I doubt if the county board will approve it. There's no doubt that Monaghan were somewhat limited in terms of classy players. I think Meath have more top level players so I'd hope the workrate Banty would instill combined with the undoubted class Meath have in their ranks already would bring us on.

Could we have grimley & mcelkennon, but mcentee or Carr as manager?

That would be some set up.

Jinxie--- In the name of God --what did Paddy Carr ever win in this county either at club or minor county level? And dont bring up that All Ireland club title with a League of Nations outfit.

Banty is streets ahead of Paddy Carr. In my opinion he blew it with a seriously talented minor team when he had the job.

Liam Harnan is the only man i would like to see in the job. If Banty got the job i wouldn't be so confident going into 2011. I would have thought a current player should have been on the panel to pick the manager as they are the one's who have to work with whoever gets the job. A senior player like Nigel Crawford should have been on the panel. After all the GAA and the county board were all to happy to let the players decide should there be a replay of the lienster final.

its ok saying a current player should have a say but lets face it the last 3 managers the panel were split on what they taught of them.one player might like a man and the next might not.not all lads will like the manager its just the way of the world.some great names on the list but i struggle 2 pick 1 to bring us futher just an opinion hope im wrong

Auldfella.
Fair enough them. I was only throwing Carr in there as he has plenty of experience, albeit not at that level, but not many of the Meath lads listed do either.
Grimley would be alot of tge brains behind it tho.
But fair enough if ya disagree on Carr, what about mcentee & the other two?
(btw neither option is ever gonna become a reality, but just for arguments sake)

McEnaney as manager with Paul Grimley, Liam Harnan and Gerry McEntee as his selectors, now there is a collection of men that I would like to see running things. No offence but none of the rest, with the exception of O'Rourke who will bide his time and of course EOB, are near the level we require. Time to give change a lash maybe and bring in a bit of outside influence, we need to stir the pot a bit and become more aggressive and the men listed above could very well do that.

Paul Grimley underachived with an Armagh with loads of talent They had 3 of the best scoring forwards in the country. In Kildare failed to win promotion no Leinster title and has managed to bring Monaghan backwards. However the players in all 3 got on with him but no success

Barry is a non runner from the start, O'Rourke has it too handy on RTE1, Damien Sheridan is not ready for the step up just yet. I don't think he would want to be involved when his sons are on the Meath panel anyway. Club is different to county.
McEntee is way too busy as a surgeon to take the position. He might take on an advisory role like he had with Dublin. I would imagine Liam Harnan will want to stay on with Skryne to try and retain the title next year.
Banty is the only name that has real experience and with Grimley he will have a very able Lt. He took Monaghan from nearly rans in Ulster to being one of the favourite this season to win the province. Sometime you just have to swallow your pride and shop outside the county. Having said that i think O'Brien should have been kept on.

I don't know why every one is pushing the "Banty" for? How do ye think this will benefit Meath football by having someone who has really achieved SFA.
There is enough ex-county players with the know who to manage a inter county team, its not rocket science as some of you seem to think. Its about structure & discipline, setting the relevent people with the skills to deal with each area of the team, and we need someone who is proactive on the line.

I personally would love to see Harnan do it.

We don't need other counties cast offs, if the banty is not good enough for monaghan, why should we take him? Its the same as Luke Dempsey a few years ago, these boys are only second rate managers in my opinion. And we have plenty of them in this county already.

Article in Independent today says that Banty has teamed up with Liam Harnan as a selector and that the pair of them went before the interview committee togther.

Paul Grimley and Martin McElkennon also thought to be part of the set-up.

If true - then this really puts the cat among the pidgeons so to speak.

Gerry McEntee aside - it would be hard to justify any of the other candidates over this proposition.
What will the interview committe think though????

Whilst I felt awfully sorry for EOB I find this prospect very exciting, the addition of Harnan shows that McEnaney must really wany the job and is determined to get it and given our defensive woes having Harnan involved would be a huge benefit, indeed not just for defence but for the whole plant seeing what he achieved with Skryne. Get out the rubber seals and let the hard work begin, this package is way above anything else on offer to Meath.
