Meath should offer a replay

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Louth No.13 Judge upped the tempo - Check the RTE website - the first person to 'advance' on Ref.Sludden was Louth No.13 Judge..when his path was barred (by a jeans clad Louth supporter), another clown took the Judge cue to try hit the ref in the face...Judge had a motive (he was sent off) ...so what have Louth to say about that?

The match should not be replayed because:
1. This is football, not a creche.
2. It is not Meath's fault the ref. didn't see anything wrong with incidents leading to the goal :
> Kenny square > Kennan lost control of the ball > Joe gathers and goal / penalty /kickout call to be made in split seconds
3. The ref is human, the sport is amateur - some Louth (and other Forum members here) have lost the run of themselves
4. If this set a precedent, all craw thumping, whingers would get the game destroyed after the fact
(eg imagine Mayo with this clause...it would take weeks to get a result looking at Video analysis of the most innocuous games).
5. If we did allow revision 'after the fact', Meath could go back and say two Louth frees (should have been Meath frees)
were wrong call.
6. JP Rooney knew what he was doing kicking ball away twice (cheating, gamesmanship).
7. Who has most points wins > Louth inexperience meant they didnt take those chances
8. I am sorry (genuinely) for Louth - Meath had to learn the hard way, and to lose gracefully
9. LU are good enough to come back.

Ok goal should not be allowed, but if replay takes place it should be a closed venue, could we really allow a replay in croker after what happened on the pitch after match.
I witnessed families in fear in the canal end due to bottles been thrown from top of stand.

There was a lot of damage done in dundalk and drogheda last night. In Ardee all the MH registered cars were vandalised. I can't see why Louth have such a problem because its been 9 years since meath last one a leinster title, a long time - I was only a gasson back then!!!

Louth should be well used to losing after 50 YEARS!!!

I personally hope it goes to a replay because we will actually embarrass Louth with the scoreline...we never got out of first gear and Louth were fairly close to top gear..harsh words but true.

honest to god jumunji god gave meath people some football ability but no sense or understanding about football at all. all meath people seen was the dublin result and before the louth match ye wer gonna hammer us. now post match sunday u make a comment ye didnt get out of first gear, ha wat a joke, wer ya saying that at the end of the first half? ye wer out played in the 2nd half, ye just couldnt get the ball or cope with the way louth played. meath pre and post dublin matches are an average team and thats a fact, look wat happened the year ye got knocked out of leinster and played limerick.. you talk about 50 years for louth, only 1 player on the meath team has a leinster title and the other are in the same boat as louth.. 9 years of poor football by meath failing to put back to back wins in leinster sounds similar like louth yeah.. take history away and these current teams are no different in ability and louth showed that sunday

To save face, Meath should offer replay. Do you want to win a Leinster like this.??? I wouldnt think so. On the day, Louth should have been champions. They were not good enough to put you fully away which would suggest that Meath would hammer them in a replay. Offer the replay, it will save Meath GAAs name.

Because it was such an unprecedented refereeing error, the last kick of the game and such an important match I think a replay is the only resaonable outcome.

Further more I think Meath would get a lot of credit for the gesture and would probably win the replay. By not offering a replay they will not enjoy the support of nuetrals for the rest of the Championship and longer and will create a lot of bad blood for God knows how long between two neighbouring counties.

Your not far of the mark there and anyone who knows anything about Meath football will agree. However this year both teams improved immensely. Louth probably more so than Meath. However Meath are a considerably better balanced team this year to what they were over the past number of years. This was not so apparent on Sunday, but even the best teams or players won't put in complete performances every day.

as a Meath man I think we should have offered a replay and even if there was one and we won its still gonna be tainted. I believe the GAA copped out on this one for the other county posters on the board ask yourself would it be fair if it was your county and the GAA left it to your players would you think it was fair? like many meath people I do feel for Louth they were the better team second half no disagreement there but it was the ref that robbed Louth not Meath. now the GAA pass the buck because they dont want to be involved its left to the players and its a no win situation.

A few points:

- Teams have offered replays in the past and it hasn't subsequently resulted in a flood of such replays. This is because teams generally only offer replays where there is a clear and decisive event which they know has gone in their favour when it shouldn't have.

- People who are saying "it's not up to Meath, it's up to the GAA to decide" are copping out. The GAA will (and has to) stick to the rule that the ref's decision is final, otherwise it would set a precedent allowing teams to appeal against wrong decisions, which could be a slippery slope. The rules are on Meath's side here, it is only sportsmanship that calls on them to offer the replay. This is a decision for Meath to make.

- "Sure it should've been a penalty anyway". That's debatable anyway, but so what? Penalties can be missed or saved (no matter how good the taker is). The penalty decision would not have decided the outcome, the following kick would have.

- You could make a reasonable argument for Louth being thrown out this year's championship due to the fans' appalling behaviour, but that's a seperate issue which shouldn't affect the decision.

SAM 1996 great reliable source you had. the players are not in favour of a replay and there most likely will be no replay. i really think this is a pity because it would make meath look good and decent for offering a replay ad we would hav the chance to go out and beat them fairly.

i dont think a replay would solve anythin cos thing about say we go on and win the replay we'r still gonna be labelled cheats because of the first game no matter what happens joe's "goal" will always be remembered personally i dont think there should be a replay as i have stated over the past day or so

actually louth have a very stong case for just being awarded the game no replay. refs report is final if in the report he says it wasn't a goal than louth won. though i would hate to win like that.

I met a former Meath player, who won an all-Ireland in 1996, and he reckons we should have offered a replay, mainly cuz of 2 reasons, he thinks all our star men will never play as bad again, and secondly, he reckons not offering a replay will come back to haunt us maybe months and years down the line!

Is anyone else getting sick of talk of a reply aswell??
A potential replay would only lead to more contraversity. If Louth win, Meath say "sur we let yas have it, we won last Sunday". If Meath win, louth say "we won the first day anyway and wanted no replay"

Therefore, the only logical solution is a best of 3 games
Failing that, i suggest rock, scissors, paper.

Joseff

i have always associated meath football with skill manliness and honesty, this episode is a mess for all involved and meath cannot take any credit in taking this title.
a replay is probably the best option but the leinster title is devalued as a result of last sunday regardless of what transpires in the next few days.

I think meath have taken the correct decision in not offering louth a replay. Yes, the "goal" was an outragious decision and the ref has admitted his mistake. But, are we goung to replay EVERY game that is decided by i,2 or 3 points (ie. 1 score). There wont be a game played antwhere in the country where EVERY score will be 100% legitimate.
Its a sickener for Louth, and it would have been brilliant for them to win a Leinster, but there are plenty of "Louths" around the country who will feel robbed by a decision somewhere. If we are to replay all those games we might finish the championship in 2012 !!!
