Meath should offer a replay

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Because the idiot in the Louth jersey struck one of my county players (Mark Ward) in the face whilst more of his countymen were assaulting the referee and a steward was being injured, and especially as none of my players responded to such a sly dig (well done Mark, God only knows what would have happened if you had responded to such provocation and pulverised the little twerp!) IMO regretfully, it would be difficult to let these "low life" succeed and allow a replay to the cause of such supporters!!!!!!!!!!

I was at croke park today wit my young son he is only 6 and loves meath and going to the games. I was actually afraid today and he was going to get hurt football is suspose to be a family day out but some of the louth supporters behaviour was a disgrace. I am a meath supporter I dont think it was a goal. I feel sorry for louth but u didnt do urselfs any favours acting the way you did after the game. I hope meath offer them a replay to prove to everyone they can beat louth fairly. I think meath would beat them in a replay. But I do think Joe sheirdan was fouled when he caught the ball.

Fitzpatrick said after the game he was going to give a penalty if the ball had not ended up in the net and by the laws of the game he was right in that sence to give the goal. It was a bad way to win a game it really was. All the same the louth fans should hang their heads in shame. Every GAA player worth his salt would have done what Joe did today but what other county has done that to the ref and a player?? Also heard on the grapevine that Boylan was attacked on his way out too.

Hey all you out anti-Meath supporters out there- don't blame Meath Players or Fans for bad refereeing decisions. Would you have taken the goal for your County if it were you. BE REAL. Not one Meath Supporter whom I met after game was gloating. Bad form from Louth supporters to attack ref. Feel sorry for Louth- but thats football- some decisions go for you and some against. Thought ref. was poor overall.

Look one thing about today's game is this Louth did not take their chances when they should have done, Louth were the best team today, over the years we have seen not taking your chances when you are on top can have a habit of coming back and biting you on the backside. I would not offer Louth a replay simply because of their idiot supporters. No matter how upset you get about officals you simply cannot attack them, in fact not only would I not offer that a replay I would ban them from the rest of the 2010 Championship (Until they can control their supporters). Before anyone claims that Meath are unsporting, how sporting was JP Rooney when he twice kicked the ball away (When he thought the game was won) again this back fired on him in the end. Finally over the years Meath were always an unpopular team so why should we worry what anyone thinks of us now? I for one will not be losing any sleep over this incident, roll on the quarters. Up The Royals!!

I am not at all saying Meath were at fault in anyway and i think Louth's fans let themselves down, All i am saying is that its a ideal oppertunity for us as a county to " do the right thing "

Have to agree with Thaiboy, there's not a hope that if the shoe was on the other foot would Louth offer Meath a replay so let them stop cribbing and get over it. They're still in the championship, not that they'd have a hope against Kerry (Meath might not either) but you'd think it was the All Ireland they were deprived of.

I agree with most of what is being said here:
I agree that the the disgraceful behaviour of a small number of Louth "supporters" sgould not be rewarded with a second game.
I agree that referees are only human and make mistakes and we have to put up with that and get on with things.
I agree that he made so many poor decisions yesterday that cost Meath 2-3 points so the poor decisions probably evened themselves out.
I agree that Louth would never in a million years offer a replay if the roles were reversed.
I agree that very few other counties would do either.

And yet I would still like to see the county board come out this evening and offer to replay the game. Cant really explain why - just think its the right thing to do.

Should definitely be a replay. Didnt celebrate the win last night, thought it was a terrible ending. In saying that didnt like the booing from the Louth supporters either.

No replay should be given or offered, how many times have teams lost out to bad decision making by officials. Should we replay every game

Couple of points :

- Referee was extremely poor and has contributed handsomely to this mess.

- Minority of Louth fans behaviour disgusting . Caveman antics . These knuckle heads will get what they deserve.

- Meath should agree to a replay - Fixed for Navan - and as punishment for appalling behavious of a few yesterday - minus Louth fans .

alanmisty Meath are already one of the most hated counties in Ireland. so it would just be worse

on the other points

Meath have the option to offer a replay, but dont make meath the deciders of Louth's Faith.
The GAA should come out and admit that there man made a mistake and if they believe that it should be replay (which it wont) then do it.
but what happens then in the future if there is a bad decision, teams will end up in court over results.

sam 1996,

you have a good look at that incident again today and tell me where theres a push involved with joe sheridan like a good man.
he dived towards the line to avoid a tackle and his momentum carried him over. NOT ALLOWED

A lot of people have said that Louth DO NOT deserve a replay because of the criminal behaviour of some of their fans. I don't agree and believe that if there were scope within the rules to afford Louth a replay then the team should NOT be denied it because of their fans. However the following MUST now happen:

(1) The Louth fans who assaulted officials and players (specifically Meath players) and who threw bottles onto the pitch should be prosecuted in a court of law and leveled with a lifetime ban from GAA stadia.

(2) There is growing evidence of an anecdotal nature that some of the Louth squad (and possibly a player that had been sent off during the game) assaulted some of the Meath squad immediately after the final whistle. It is incumbent on the CCCC in reviewing this game to regard as its FIRST duty the identification and punishment of any such players or affiliates of the Louth squad, and for that punishment to be exemplary.

Finally, whatever about the errors made by officials, the bogus excuses about penalties or non-penalities, and the questions as to the integrity or honesty of certain Meath players, my own view is that that it ill serves Meath - who were in no way to blame for any aspect of yesterday's appalling conclusion to the game - to be vilified as they have been, and that they would do well to rise above the petty griping and in the interest of sportsmanship volunteer to replay the game. Only then will we hear a swift and definite to this dismal episode - which has been perhaps the darkest in my thirty years of following Gaelic Games.
