Possible Meath Junior Team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

JamesT what you are clearly stating is that if you are on a meath underage team then you should be guaranted a spot on future meath teams from that, irrespective of how well you are playing. And that other players who werent on underage teams cant improve! And also that if you were on a meath underage team that you should automatically be picked ahead of a possibly better player who had not previously represented meath. This is actually the problem with meath football, and why it is failing to improve.
Also, what do you mean "why dont people discuss the Meath first team?"Are you new to this? The meath first team is discussed day in,day out. What do you be looking at,look at the main forum page now??!There is yet another thread on meaths starting 15,how many is that now?

i know that royal son. I was just stating that the Meath junior team should be made of up and coming players who could go on and represent meath regardless of which grade that they play in.

Paudi, at what age do you stop being up and coming?
Would have thought the minors and u21 teams covered such a category of player

i mean players that have a chance to get on the meath Senior team. Last year Glen Loughran Played with the team no offence to him but hes hardly going to be pushing for a meath place as he is in his 30s. in my view the Junior team should be made of players who can possibly make the step up to the meath senior panel.

Don't think I agree Paudi,at the end of the day there's a Junior All-Ireland to be won so the best 15 have to be picked regardless of age.Ian Dowd from Donaghmore/Ashbourne is good definitely good enough to make their Senior team but apparently he doesn't get on with the manager so he's playing with the Junior A team.

Well John Boy i dont know where you got the information from . Ian Dowd is on the senior panel at the minute . Injured with a broken hand i am let to believe.

I seen him at the 2 leagues games in plaster.

No i think Ian Dowd can't give the commitment to the senior team so that is the reason he is playing with the Junior A team. If this is true then he surely couldn't give the commitment to the Meath juniors.

Paudi I can see where you're coming from in some regards but if Loughran and such players impress in trials how can a manager omit them from a squad? You can't stop these type of lads from showing up and wanting to represent their county. Anyway in fairness I don't think there are that many players in this category.

Your theory makes sense in some regards like for instance Louth are allowed use senior players and even members of the county panel so you could say their junior team is a glorified back up team to the seniors. This may be the ideal scenario but you have to remember that the Junior selectors are picking from a smaller pool of players than that as they can only select Intermediate or Junior players while also digging out the odd senior player who didn't play senior club football the previous year.

Ultimately you're picking the best Inter/Junior players who put themselves forward for the Junior squad so if these guys who are supposed to be the cream of the crop at their level aren't good enough for the senior team then you're saying they shouldn't be on the junior panel on that basis? What sort of squad would management be left with then?

The meath Junior team should consist of both experience and youth. The youth to start playing at inter-county level and the experienced players to help them adjust. I think Maybe it should happen more at an intermediate level , although i am not sure whether we have an inter-county team at intermediate? The idea would be a stepping stone to Senior Football.

This micky Mouse Junior rubbish should be scrapped.

It has too much effect on smaller clubs who struggle without their best players when they away with this pointless outfit of "has beens" and "not good enough" for Senior Setup types

The junior team gives lads a chance to play in croke park, that why the players take it seriously..and ul not get there without players like loughran, pick the best team u can, only 2 or 3 players break into the senior panel a year!!
