Meath Team: you decide - full forward

Yes i would go with Queeny at full forward. As most counties know what Meath will do if Joe is in there but with Queeny you can go low or high.Joe can make some fine catches around the middle and if the marc stays Meath could do well in that department.

This is a great debate that I don't have a definitive answer for either. I think Joe would say his best position is full forward, and I would imagine no full back in the country would like to see him come in because they know they on't get a second's peace! I would like to see Queeney given another chance at CHF, I feel he got through an awful lot of work, especially tracking back but if we get him used to CHF he can also pop over a few scores. For Tipp this weekend I would leave it as is with Joe and Jamie. It's a great dilemma to be in

A few people have said that joe should be there & that he showed that the other night & when he done nothing after the goal, it was due to the bad supply of ball, but for me, thats exactly the reason to have him at chf!
He's too good of a player to be relying on scraps, & chf he gets much more ball & is just as effective when it comes to scoring. I think he wins more ball there than queeny would & uses it better. Queeny would also be a little more mobile than Joe at ff & turn full backs quicker, where as joe will win almost any ball, but not as likely to skin his marker, but at chf, he is more likely to give his man more of a headache.
Thats just my take on it tho!

Start joe on de forty with queeney inside with the 2 of them interchanging every 10/15 mins. This could cause the opposition FB different sorts of problems and work very much in our favour.

I would prefer to see Joe Sheridan at full forward. This, in my opinion, is his most natural position and he can play as a target man while his scoring ability is second to none.

royal_green - I'd have to disagree with you. Queeney is far more consistent at slotting points. Joe's strengths are his fielding, his passing and his ability to have a crack at a score. That said he is not the most clinical man to slot a point everytime he gets a chance. I refer to Saturday as a prime example. Joe is capable of scoring some incredible points but he also has a tendency to miss some easy ones.

Yeah, all the qualities you would look for in a top inter-county midfielder. Joe's not a natural no.11, he doesn't have the subtlety and range to his passing that you would typically look for in a centre-half forward. He does however have tremendous range on his kicks, well able to drop the ball onto the D from practically any distance. Playing him at no.11 right now seems to be an invitation for him to do what he feels like, and while there's no doubting his work-rate there were lots of times last year when I felt we could have done with a speedier player on the forty.

We all agree that Queeney can win posession high and low so ideally we should have both a proper no.11 and a passing midfielder to feed those runs with good ball.

Either start Joe next to Crawford at midfield or pick him a no.10 and play him as an extra midfielder for the duration of the match. That way we could groom a proper no.11 such as Cian Ward or Stephen Bray to play on the forty.

Result:

Jamie Queeney 69%
Joe Sheridan 23%
Cian Ward 4%
Brian Sheridan 4%
