3 from 3..... And it's a worry !
Cavan are surprisingly poor .... But 100%!

4 to go ... Win 2 for promotion .... But it's two from Sligo/Longford/limerick

well next Sunday should Cavan win which you would expect them to do it's as good as saying promotion for Cavan at long last.

This game was over by half time..and even worse the Cavan lads knew it. They gave a great 10 mins at the start of the second and that made the game safe. Wexford were really poor and had no answer to the tackling and harassing of our backs. I thought McEnroe, Fergal flanagan and both reilly's were emense as our half back line, and they all seemed interchangeable at times. Backs played really well and there was a cuteness around midfield when breaking the ball which invariable meant our lads ended up with the ball. There were glimpses from McKiernan and he just needs more game times and full match fitness. The same goes for Mackey who kicked a couple (if i remember correctly) of great scores in the first half. Dunne was poor up front and the 50/50 ball was lost most of the time but worst was the 3-4 shots he kicked into the goalies hands.

Our game is suited for the summer and you could see that today. We were a class above Wexford but it didn't show on the scoreboard. Apart from the fir 10 mins, the remainder of the second half was atrocious football and the amount of turnover ball was shocking, but the game was won & lads tired on a really heavy pitch.

People forget where we are coming from. Two years ago we were losing to 14 man Offaly at home in Breffni Park. Now we are in a position where we are going down to counties like Wexford, just relegated from Division 2, winning comfortably and people are still complaining.

Cop yourselves on folks.

Had a great weekend in Wexford. 2 more points in the bag. Agree with a lot of stuff posted. In the end the hungrier, fitter and more determined team won. We were disciplined and made the use of the wind in the first half. The pitch looked shocking and the players commented on it after the match. Wexford were awful but I think we made Wexford look awful. Josh, Killian and Jason snuffed most ball out first time and if the Wexford boys won it, they met our half backs rushing back to get in the tackle. Our tackling was immense and the workrate to do that in that pitch was the same. To hold a home team in any division to 6 scores is a reflection of the work that's being done with this team. It was such a pity that the PRO didn't announce when Ronan came on as a sub until he was on for a minute or two. He was slipped on as a second substitute when Niall Murray came on. We would surely have gave him the recognition he deserved if he had come on as a single substitute. Great to see Alan Clarke in the warm up. For me, have to say Gunner was MOTM, the guy was everywhere putting tackles in and very unlucky to get yellow carded. I think we fall foul of the referee when we get a lead on a team recently. The ref goes easy on the loosing team and punishes us for fair tackles. Anyway rant over. Well done boys and was nice to see a good Breffni crowd in New Ross. Roll on next week. The Future is Blue!!!!!

2 more points on our quest for division 2 football next season is all that can be taken from this yesterday. How on earth do the Gaa allow County games be played at this venue..? Back to the game...our defence played brilliantly...I dont think we caught a ball at midfield... Our attack started well but then wasted a lot of chances.. The 2nd half became unbareable to watch with us passing the ball across and back down the field and this was playing against a terrible Wexford team...and it all ended with us kicking a 45 backways down the field at the end.. The quicker we get out of this mire of a division the better...?

do you think the team are under instructions to build up a lead and then just play a possesion game. and only towards the very end to go again and try to rack up a few more scores. it seems to be a pattern in games this year. I think we are well capable of beating teams like Offally and Wexford (at least the wexford team that was on view yesterday) by alot more than we did.

Another point re our tackling. we would want to be extremely careful this championship season. I watched the Meath Armagh game the other night and Jamie Clarke got loads of frees that he didn't get last year against us. if the same thing happened in Ulster as happened in Navan we would be conceding about 5 or 6 more frees than we did last year and Clarke will pop every one of them over. I know Gunner is a whole-hearted player and I would never fault him for his attitude but some times he plays very much on the edge of legality. Just sayin, we would want to be a bit careful.

Had a good weekend myself and still paying for sat night! Although I agree with posters above, the game should not have been played on such a heavy pitch, I did'nt realise it was going to be as heavy. Stand out performers were the full back line, james McEnroe was immense, he has power to burn. Great to see Gearoid back, he worked hard. Niall McDermott stepped it up from recent performances, but out from that there was a lot of graft but no return. Mick Argue was quite frustrating to watch, he kicked ball after ball away, but hopefully will learn. I dont think we can continue to accomodate a big man at wing forward, i believe those days are gone. Mobility, speed, footballing ability and cuteness round the breaks are needed. Not taking away from the young lad, but it must be frustrating for players like Murray, timmelly, smith to see, when they are more suited to the position.
Lots to work on, the pitch didnt help as the players have pointed out, but the most important thing is the 2 points! Bring on next weekend. An Cabhan Abu

Nice victory to get away from home, think we are seeing a maturity in the management that we didn't have last year fairplay doing the right things at the right time. Thought the full back line were all excellent their positioning to cut off ball to the Wexford forwards is what kept Wexford to such a low score, all the backs seemed to be able to read each other and support each other very well, half backs like Mackey did well but faded in and out. Was most impressed with DJ Reilly and Niall Mc Dermott. Thought Dec Mc Kiernan would have been a good option in the forwards in 2 nd half when we had a famine for scores. Our defence tackled , turned over, and chased down all day. The amount of ball turned over on our forwards was a worry. Gearoid getting back bit by bit is great to see, he will be well match ready by championship.

Congratulations to the team on a great two points yesterday . Was often frustrating with our full forward line and forward play in general not great . At times we looked like a young cat with an injured mouse , all enthusiasm but not knowing how do deliver the coup de grace . We definitely need to get out of the division and hopefully refine our forward play in a higher division . Defence was immense yesterday . Everyone played great but Gunner epitomized all that was good about us - powerful , brave , tenacious , savage work rate , great fitness level . We have really come a long way in the last 12 months - to think that the start of last year there were genuine concerns of avoiding relegation . Conditions were testing yesterday , very heavy pitch , which contributed to our handling and ball delivery being very poor but these things happen . What you can control is your attitude , commitment and work rate . If these things are in place as a given then you will always be in the mix even when playing poorly and this definitely seems to be the case with this lot . Onwards and upwards!
Great to see Ronan Flanagan , tough few months for him . Also Gearoid McKiernan , put in a big shift . Disappointed Kevin Tierney didn't get a run . If management refuse to give him a run in situations like this it's hard to see where his future lies . Maybe he was carrying a knock , can only guess . Regarding our forwards , anyone know the status on Jack Brady , are we likely to see him in the blue jersey soon?

I read that the Wexford lads on the main Board are saying Roscommon are a far better team than us. Delighted to hear and I hope the Rossies believe that as well.
I enjoyed the game apart from the last 20 mins which was hard to watch. Up to that I thought we were excellent and at 0-8 to 0-3 at half time we looked comfortable. Early in the 2nd half we started really well and Givney kicked 2 great points. But we just died after that. Far too many wides and balls into the keeper. Maybe the pitch took it out of our lads and I agree we are more of a top of the ground team.
The real plus has to be our defence. Again yesterday they were superb. Our tackling , our anticipation and covering was right out of the top bracket. Also great to see big Gearoid put in a huge shift. He should be really flying come Champ time.I hope we can improve our scoring averages because we have nearly everything else right.
A win on a better pitch next Sunday will leave us in a good position. Although Sligo will be no push -over. Maybe Keating could be back!!

Wouldn't worry too much about what the Wexford lads said Brownred - every game is different . The important thing is that we get to pit ourselves against Roscommon twice before the championship starts . A game v the rossies on a dry croke park a month before championship would be the truest indicator of where the two counties stand!

Anyone know when Michael Lyng is expected back? Seems like when he was previously on the panel and beginning to show form, but then picking up knocks.

Back from a great trip to Wexford. Can't argue with most of the posts. Our defence has been class. Killian Clarke, the Gunner, James McEnroe, Jason McLoughlin all very good. And remember we were without Alan Clarke and Rory Dunne. The pitch was terrible, that was very heavy going. The first half performance won it for us, that was the launching pad. Ok we probably should be a bit more clinical in front of goal, think we had at least 3 good opportunities. But as I said before I set off on Saturday, what was the key ? Teamwork for me. That's the key with this side, great teamwork. There doesn't appear to be any "mé féiner's" on the team. I knew Niall McDermott was too good to let a couple of bad games affect him ! Three points he got were class. Mackey contributed a good bit as well. Damian O'Reilly very good and Gearoid and Givney had very sound games. Dunne very poor, I'd say he struggled in the conditions. Definitely a "top of the ground" performer. Playing my adopted county at home next. Should have enough to beat them. Keep the faith.

Lots of hard work still needed on the training ground and on the field of play. Sligo will be the best team we have played to date but with a maintenance of the hard work ethic shown in the games to date we should get through.

Great to see Jason McLoughlin starting back where he left off last year. We are getting to the stage where we have 2 players for every position on the field and people like Mark McKeever getting game time is great for the morale on the bench. The Gunner could be a Tomas O'Shea for us yet when he gets a bit more experience. He gave an exhibition yesterday. If someone said a month ago that we'd have to face Wexford without our full-back, centre half and main striker I'd have panicked. Yesterday proved we can. I hope we can drive on now and finish the job. Well done lads!

Training hard no malingering. I was not surprised to see Ronan have a run out as he was flying in training.
