Cavan v Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No team named yet but to be cruelly honest with you it was going to be a hard match to win in the first place for Wexford made it clear they were playing to get back up to where they were.
Now with the loss of Eugene and as you say our full back remember our captain is gone as well this is three key players gone of this panel.
This match was never going to be an easy match but I can tell you now with the loss of these three players that is off course assuming our full back is not fit well we Cavan are going to find it very hard to take two points. I would be very happy to take one point tomorrow for remember we have another match tomorrow week which is no easy match either, it would be safe to say if we don't take points from these two matches we will not get promotion it's that simple.
Best of luck to Mr Hyland and his players tomorrow.

Another good win, 0-13 to 6. A lot saw this as the trickiest fixture but with the players Wexford have lost though retirment and injury, Cavan would have been expected to get the 2 pts, even if Cavan had some injuries.. Great boost to see Geaorid McKiernan back in blue. Looking good for promotion but have to finish the job now and not get complacent. Sligo up next and they are still in the mix with 2 wins from 3..

It was also fantastic to see Ronan Flanagan come on and make an appearance.

Great win and returning players getting game time.
The game was over early but 20 minutes without scoring again is worrying as is some of the shooting.
We are getting better all the time.

Great result today. Cavan going well. Only team in any division not to concede a goal yet in the first 3 games. Good to see us do well missing probably our two best players this year so far , Dunne & Keating. Looking forward to Sligo game already.

Great to get the two points. I thought Wexford would be much better than that, they were awful. It was an efficient performance from us, we got the job done without ever getting out of second gear, we never looked like losing. The second half for us was more like shooting practice than anything, we had all the play and really should have scored a lot more.

Good to see Ronan Flanagan making a comeback. Turloc Mooney as well. We're ticking over nicely, two more wins should see us promoted.

Another good win. Could not make the trip today. Good to see Nial McDermott finally getting a few scores, he has been quiet at times to date.
Still some of the same issues being repeated by the sounds of things. Poor shot choice, lack of a score for a sustained period of time. What happened to young Tinnelly, seemed to be motoring well in the games he played & hasn't got a sniff since. How was big Gearoid ?

Good win,, but still worrying with the same efforts up front, doing the same thing over and over expecting different results, but still going strong in div 3, fair play to the lads

No surprises in the South East this afternoon. Another solid if unspectacular performance. Sligo are up next, always to be respected, but a win against them and we are then in with a great chance of obtaining minimum goal for the year.

I travelled and yes it was a good win but against the worst Wexford team I have seen in a long time. And I think we have to keep our feet on the ground when some of the opposition is taken into account.
There were lots of positives and once again a fair few negatives.
Positives:
1. The return of Gearoid McKiernan to midfield and also Ronan Flanagans return.Gearoid gave a towering performance and that game will have done him the power of good. Killian Brady was a sound ally around the middle and worked like a trojan.
2. The defence as a whole was brilliant and there were stars in every position. Josh Hayes and Killian Clarke in particular I thought were especially good.
3. The forwards moved reasonably well in the 1st half and the return to form of Niall Mc Dermott was great to see.In the absence of Eugene, he certainly stepped up to the plate.
4. The workrate of the lads was really commendable and nobody could be faulted.

Negatives:
1. The alarming slump of our forward line in the 2nd half was very worrying. This has happened in nearly every game this year and needs to be addressed urgently!!!
2. Martin Dunne, Martin Reilly and Cian Mackey were largely anononomous and this is also a worry!! Martin Dunnes inability to win his own ball will have to be addressed.
3. David Givney did some good things but at times looked like a fish out of water. Scored some nice points so was still effective.
4. Why was Kevin Tierney not used. Seemed the ideal day and pitch to use him. We lack goal scorers and he seems to be the only one we have.
5. Our slow build up in the 2nd half gives teams time to get men back behind the ball. But some of our shooting in the 2nd half was atrocious. Also a few sloppy passes.

So lots to work on but I think if we can iron out our 2nd half slumps and shooting then we can gain promotion. The attitude from the lads is great!!
